As much as I loathed Nancy in the 1980s, I admire her refusal to allow her husband, and what *some* perceive to be his greatness, to be exploited for political purposes.

She seems to have some degree of decorum about all this Beatification of St Ronnie business that's going on. For that, I applaud her.

This is my favorite clip from the story...
"The rejection was a shock, {founding university president Terry} Walker said.
"I'm just sitting here watching Fox News and recovering with a scotch in my hand. When I wake up tomorrow, maybe I'll think about it some more," he said."
LOL!
Just ADMIT you're a FauxNews watching neo-con dittohead neanderthal, why don't you...? :spank:

the Pox network. Adorable. Up yours, asshole! Hope that scotch went all over your lap.
Never liked Miz Nancy when she was on the throne. I like her better now. I'm guessing perhaps the adversity she's had to face with his Alzheimer's since they left office has touched her pretty deeply, and made her more human. She's a much more sympathetic character now. Plus, I appreciate her taking a stand against the shameless exploitation of his name by these asshole-hucksters and vultures now. Maybe having to take a few lumps has had a beneficial impact on her, as much as it must be agony to go through. After all, she does love the guy (go figure). And apparently, he was just potty about her, too. Gotta respect that much, at least.
Ron Junior is another one whom I've come to respect a lot more. Neither seems afraid to speak out - especially on the issue of stem cell research. Besides, if I remember correctly, Nancy was pro-choice throughout (probably knew too many friends from her Hollywood days who'd been knocked up).

20. best portrait of a conservative EVER |
|
But seriously, people need to realize that this is the kind of self-absorbed, sociopathic pig that we are up against. This is the kind of filth that seeks to turn back the 20th century. I'm not taking shit from these people without a fight, and it's going to take a fight, and people are going to be hurt before these scumbags are relegated to the dustbin of history.

11. One positive about the Reagans |
|
They were obviously utterly and totally devoted to each other. They didn't seem to be great parents, and I certainly didn't like Reagan as a President. But I read his book of letters to Nancy and you have to be happy for any people who find that much happiness in a marriage.
I admire Nancy for protecting Reagan from people who want to exploit him while he is still alive yet can't speak for himself. I think she is insulted that all these Republicans are treating Reagan like he is dead.

"Federal law gives former presidents or their spouses final say over the use of the president's name as long as either is alive, said Terry Walker, the founding president of the university."
Right Wingers are so mentally ill that they just may try to do something underhanded.

|
Naming everything after a leader looks Stalinesque and ultimately ridiculous. If she cares about preserving her Ronnie's image for posterity, I have to say, she's more devoted to him than some of the right-wing drum-beaters who are constantly invoking his name!

But like others have said--this adversity seems to have changed her a lot. May the Lord be with both of them. I know Alzheimers (sp) is a very difficult thing to deal with. And it really must be infuriating for her to deal with all this neo-con crap.

27. One thing to remember about the Reagans... |
|
While they're conservatives, they aren't neo-cons. As much as I disagreed and opposed them, they were merely tools for the current cabal in office today. I think Nancy realizes this, and also suspects what we all do: that H.W. Bush ran with Reagan after losing in the primaries so he could have him killed shortly after the inauguration (the Hinkley plot).
I do have to tip my hat off to her. I may not agree with them, but at least they represent the non-villainous side of their party.
