Democrats down, not out
By BILL STRAUB
Scripps Howard News Service
November 04, 2004

- Every few years someone sounds a death knell over the Democratic Party, political analyst Norm Ornstein wearily noted, and it's just about then that the party of Jefferson and Madison resurrects itself yet again.

Critics are blowing taps over the world's oldest political party in the wake of a disastrous Election Day that saw it lose the White House for the second time in a row and fall further behind in the House and Senate with little relief in sight. While the demise of the Democrats is outrageously premature, it doesn't mean they don't have problems.

For the first time since 1928, when Republican Herbert Hoover became president, Republicans have held the White House and both chambers of Congress for two consecutive elections, an occurrence that Merle Black, a political scientist at Emory University in Atlanta, sees as a "historic event."

3. I don't know what to do...
At work, I have to put up with freepers. How misguided are they when they say:

-Democrats divided the US in 2000 w/ Al Gore's Florida proetst? (They seem to think that Gore caused all the ill will in this country, making it impossible for the shrub to be 'The great uniter"...)

-We pushed harder than ever before after the 2000 election. ALL of us did our part. ALL of us knew our position on the issues. Do we concede now, or do we push harder? Do we fight to stop shrub's future judicial appointees?

7. Do NOT spend your life worrying what a freeper thinks.
They will always believe it's someone else's fault.

15. Tell them I looked up "liberal" in the dictionary...
... and no where did it say that the right has the authority to define what it means.

Make it sound joke-like, non-confrontational. Make them think you are happy to know what it means now.

4. If We Can't Stop the Diebold Republican Electing Machines, WE'RE OUT
Dead. Kaput. Finished.

What we learned this election is that there is no turnout so large that
they can't steal the election from us wherever they control the voting infrastructure.

We have to find some way to stop them from stealing our votes.

5. It's the Kids!!!! Democrats = Pro Family
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 10:28 PM by fearnobush
Voters, Mongiardo said, see the Democratic Party as being "not pro-choice but pro-abortion.

"Abortion rates have actually gone up while Bush has been in office, by about 5 percent," said Mongiardo, a physician who describes himself as pro-life. "We need to tell people that the best way to be pro-life is to be pro-health care and pro-economy and jobs so people can afford to have children. We have to make life such that people can afford to have a family."

Idea Democratic theme. It's for our children. As a strong nation, we need to have more children to keep growing. Larger families mean stronger families. Democrats are all about keeping families together by creating strong economies that grow our families.

Democrats = Pro Family
Democrats = Strong leadership for growing families.

Republicans may call themselves Pro Business, But Democrats are pro family. For a broucher on keeping American families together and strong, call us at 555 DNC KIDS

16. We need to "frame" it better so the message gets across...
... the Repugs are very good at this. We aren't.

They call it gay marriage and that equates it to straight marriage. It's not working.

Why not call it pro-love and set it against pro-life? How can they object to that? How can anyone pro-life be against pro-love?

While this might not be the best way to "frame" this one, things like that are what we have to do.

Think public relations and sales.

9. Sorry, this is complete nonsense
We live in a country in which nearly 60 million people are perfectly willing to vote for a President who is ignorant, virtually illiterate, and proud that he doesn't think or change his mind. No amount of sugar coating or happy thoughts can alter this fact.

14. the kerry supporters survival guide
I'm new here, at least in the posting aspect. And like a lot
of you im just in varying degrees of emotional duress. I dont
know whether to be angry, sad, incredulous, depressed or
(insert emotional state here). I remember being in Florida the
weekend before 11/02 and seeing our support on the ground and
feeling rather good. I also remember waking up on 11/03 and
feeling as if the world and all that i knew or thought i knew
was right about it was suddenly very very wrong. I drove
around all night stunned and wondered if anybody really cared
about what we've(or really THEY) have done (I'm not taking
responsibility for this BULLSHIT). I rolled up all of my
favorite web sites and cast them aside but stopped short of
this one.
I thought about this. Why roll up or roll over and play dead.
God in heaven help us all if we don't FIGHT. I tell you all
this right now I WOULD RATHER GO DOWN IN DEFEAT PLANTING MY
SHOES IN THE OTHER GUYS ASS THEN GO DOWN WHIMPERING NICETIES
ALONG THE WAY!! We Democrats must stop doin that. If we
believe we are on the side of the angels then, paradoxically,
we must fight like the devil to get our message across. The
editorial board at the Philly Daily News agrees with
me(www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/news/opinon/10094692.htm).Damnit
stop whining, stop fighting amongst ourselves, and go after
the bad guys.
