35 US soldiers captured in Falluja:
35 US soldiers captured in Falluja: mosques:
: Falluja (Iraq), Nov 8 : Mosques in Iraq's restive city of Falluja announced Monday that rebel fighters inside the city have captured 35 US soldiers, reports Xinhua.

Loudspeakers at the mosques blared out the news as US forces were trying to penetrate the rebel-held city,

The news however could not be independently confirmed.

US troops and Iraqi special forces stormed into the western districts of Falluja early Monday and seized the main city hospital and two key bridges over the Euphrates River.

US officials said there may be more fierce fighting to come if US forces try to enter downtown Falluja on the east bank of the river.

An AC-130 gunship pounded the city as explosions from US artillery illuminated the night sky.

Widespread attacks against US forces in Iraq, over 50 killed
Associated Press
Baghdad, November 7

Facing a major assault in Fallujah, insurgents struck back with suicide car bombs, mortars and rockets across a wide swath of central Iraq, killing over 50 people and wounding more than 60 others, including two dozen Americans.
The attacks could have been aimed at relieving pressure on Fallujah, where about 10,000 American troops are massing for a major assault. Website postings late last night claimed responsibility for several attacks in the name of an Al-Qaeda-linked group believed holed up in Fallujah.

At dawn today, armed rebels launched deadly attacks against police stations in western Anbar province, leaving 22 people dead, at least seven of them policemen, according to police and hospital officials.

Using bombs and small arms fire, insurgents hit police stations in the neighbouring towns of Haditha and Haqlaniyah, 220 kilometres northwest of Baghdad, said Capt. Nasser Abdullah of the K3 police station in Haqlaniyah.

A US-led attack on the Iraqi Sunni-stronghold will breach the Geneva conventions

Tony Kevin.

11/08/04 "SMH" -- We need to be clear on what is about to happen in the Iraqi city of Falluja, about 64 kilometres west of Baghdad and a key centre of Sunni population in Iraq. This city has for many months held out as a centre of Sunni-based political-military resistance, refusing to accept the authority either of the former US-led occupying authority nor, since July, of the interim Iraqi administration led by the Prime Minister, Iyad Allawi.

Falluja is now to be brought to heel by overwhelming military power. As I write this, the US attack on the city has begun. The message to Falluja from the US armed forces in Iraq and from Allawi was brutally simple: submit now to Baghdad's authority or face attack.

It is still possible that resistance in Falluja will melt away in the face of US attack. While this would be a more optimistic scenario, I think it more likely at this point that the insurgents will fight, because too much is at stake politically for them to accept a bloodless Allawi victory. I look here at the - in my judgement, now more likely - scenario that Falluja insurgents will dig in and defy the invasion force.

What I believe is then likely to be done to Falluja will be a war crime and crime against humanity, morally indefensible by any civilised standard or for that matter, by the Statute of the International Criminal Court (to which, conveniently, neither the US nor Iraqi Government adheres).

12. I am sure this is BS. I'll wait for a credible source
Mosques announcing it over loudspeakers aren't a credible source. Also, I highly doubt that a group of 35 soldiers would be captured. It would take a very very substantial sized group of people in a concentrated area to pull that off.

Why are the Indian and Chinese press reporting on it? How do they know and not the BBC or European sources?
