John Kerry Deplores Nevada Lawsuit
January 16, 2008

John Kerry came out swinging today against voter suppression, insisting on Talking Points Memo Cafe that all Democrats reject a lawsuit that would block special caucus sites for Las Vegas Strip workers. The Obama booster didn’t call out the Clinton campaign by name, but said “certain tactics make victory … hollow.” Kerry says the right to vote is “a matter of principle.”

1. I don't think hollow victories bother her
witness her declaring "victory" in Michigan.

3. But how can people caucus from work?
I don't understand that. Don't they vote based on where they live?

The real problem is the caucus system period. So two of the first four states have caucuses instead of primaries (we have them here in Washington and I HATE them).

5. You can read all about it here:
http://media.lasvegassun.com/media/pdfs/2008/01/16/OppoDemsMTNRelief.pdf

It was agreed upon by all parties involved as of March of last year. Perhaps those living in Nevada could explain the whys and wherefores.

7. Suppressing the vote
Isn't that directly out of the republican playbook? How can any Dem in good conscience support such an action?

9. Obstacles placed in the way of a voter trying to cast his vote is wrong.

If Senator Clinton is maneuvering and trying to make it more difficult for people to vote than she is un-American.

11. Kerry full of crap!
"special caucus sites" says it all. Why should the Las Vegas Strip workers be treated any differently than anyone else? This is just a method employed by the union hierarchy to influence their members to vote for the chosen one. They're caucas's,not love-ins organized by the unions. What kind of pressure do you think would be on union members to toe the union party line in that kind of environment? I'll bet there's a lot of union members who don't necessarily agree with their leaders choice and want to take part in the process like anyone else and not under some organization's thumb. There are a lot of shift workers that may find it inconvenient or impossible to get involved? Tough is'nt it that you can't accomodate everybody, give everybody "special treatment". But if you have to,if there's a constitutional or human rights problem, then do it for everybody -no exceptions. Hell, why not hold them in churches on Sundays with the preacher breathing down everybody's neck?
