Nielsen Co. must be sent a message on outsourcing

Nielsen must be sent a message

You bet there's angst over the Nielsen Co. and others outsourcing American jobs. But what do we do about it?

When companies want "incentives" for "keeping jobs here," local governments must make them agree to "costs" for outsourcing American jobs. Then hold the companies to the bargain.

And consumers and citizens, what can we do? When you are speaking to a foreign-based customer service person, demand to speak to someone in the United States. If you can't, get another supplier to work with.

In the case of Nielsen, if you are ever called to work on Nielsen research as a media viewer, refuse and tell them to quit outsourcing American jobs. Tell them you want them to get their media viewers from a foreign country if they want to replace our workers with foreign-based workers.

Companies think outsourcing is good business. It is up to us to show them it is not!

Interesting Comments.

Nielsen layoffs, tax breaks anger Oldsmar officials (TATA)

Published Tuesday, April 15, 2008 11:39 PM

OLDSMAR — City Council members expressed outrage Tuesday over the Nielsen Co.'s plans to eliminate 110 positions at their Oldsmar operation after accepting government money to create jobs.

"To think they have the gall to take taxpayers' money and then lay people off!" said council member Suzanne Vale. "I am so upset."

"It's just incomprehensible to me," agreed council member Janice Miller.

They were responding to news that Nielsen is outsourcing work to India-based Tata Consultancy Services after receiving at least $3.1-million in state and local subsidies mainly to create jobs in Oldsmar.

Tata, one of the world's largest providers of consulting and outsourcing services, has brought in its own workers from India.

And Nielsen, formerly known as Nielsen Media Research, says they have plans to restructure further.

The topic was raised by City Council members at the end of their regular Tuesday meeting.

Some members urged their colleagues to stay calm. Mayor Jim Ronecker reminded the council that outsourcing is a national trend.

"We can't tell them how to run their business," he said.

"No, but we can call a thief a thief when they take the taxpayers' money," said council member Greg Rublee.

1. We were with Nielsen for about 8 months last year.
They got to be too much of a pain in the ass.

A bit of irony, I know a person who was a ranking member of the Florida Democratic Party, One of the ones pushing really hard for Hillary behind the scenes in Florida (actually, it was pretty blatant). This person was also employed by Nielsen. Along comes TATA, a major funder of both Hillary and Bill (big speaking fees) to take over Nielsen. Bye-bye job.

the chinese are going into faze 3, higher wages, better working conditions.. of their Sun Tsu "Art of War" program for world dominance..

china is at war with America, they are destroying us from within

i have worked for 3 companies that sent their factory to china.. in containers.. they aren't coming back, the chinese wont let them.. what a deal, free factories, and we are acquiring more illegal aliens than the jobs we are losing and they are taking jobs. that is the ReThuglican plan to enslave us. and create their global utopia

when Reagan took office there were 450 shoe factories HERE, when he left office there were 3, if china turns around their ships we will be a destitute 4th world country with no hope, it is a matter of national security to be able to make the necessities of life HERE.
