This is just a quick snapshot of the (I believe) changing mood here in one of bush's "safe" states.
There is a local rock station here that was all gung-ho shock and awe with the bush gang in the run up to the war - France and Dixie Chick and protester slamming and all. They just aired an exchange between the dj and a caller who described himself as a pissed off redneck.
This station also airs Stern, and this morning Stern pulled an April fool's joke by having a happy, "filth free" "regis and whatever" type blabfest replace his show for a while. Made a point.
The caller I just heard was saying how that wasn't right, and the dj said "hey, Stern was making a point, this is about free speech." The caller agreed, and went on to say the pics from Iraq in todays paper were far more obscene than anything Stern ever could do or say, and that the sorry ass bush administration needs to get their nose out of trying to limit our freedoms at home and give their attention to protecting our soldiers. The dj said hey, let 'em run those pictures, let people see what these guys (bushco) have gotten us into. The caller said he wanted bush to put his money where his mouth is, and that he knew a couple of women that could take on the wimp.
The caller then made a request, and dedicated it to g.w.bush. The song, which the dj immediately played? - "For whom the bell tolls" by Metallica.
This might be nothing to most of you, but my jaw hit the floor. This is South Carolina, and its rare to hear anything on the airwaves about the impostor and his thugs other than praise. They effin' slammed bush. This formerly pro-bush, pro-invasion dude, who almost gave me a stroke when he had Ted Nugent as a guest a few months ago, and to whom I've sent plenty of emails slamming him for his whorish bush worship, just stomped all over the regime, with a local caller joining in. In SC!
Something is happening. They didn't just cross Stern with their censorship crap, they crossed the whole profession, and anyone who values their rights.
Maybe this belongs in the lounge, if anywhere, but I just had to share it. I'm gonna email the dude right now and welcome him into the light.
