My idea for an anti-* ad
Opening lines: Repuke says "we're glad to have a President who's strong on terror" (doesn't say * specifically)

Then an announcer asks:

America, would like a President who tried to cut FBI counter-terrorism funding to fund a bloated and failed military project (star Wars/SDI)....

.....Would you like a President who couldn't decide whether or not he wants to make us safer by establishing a Department of Homeland Security?....

....Would you like a President who won't let us know and truth about 9/11, and only established the 9/11 Commission for political gains?

....Would you like a President who abuses "Executive Privilege" to with-hold info of the worst attack on U.S. soil?

....Would you want a President who gives out pictures of himself on 9/11 as a fund-raising gift?

If you oppose such a President, you should know who this person really is. He's been sitting in the White House for the last four years.

Repeat the sound-bite from Repuke who praises * for being "tough on terror"

5. you're not getting responses because

you don't evoke a VISUAL

unless you're talking radio, there's nothing here for TV

and even for radio, it's too much and, frankly, obvious.

9. a slightly reworked version:

This November, we have the chance to show the terrorists how serious we are in fighting them.

One candidate stands out from the field.

When terrorists were stalking America's borders, he cut the FBI's counterterrorism funding. And when the FBI complained, he ignored them.

While hijackers were scouting America's airports, his attention was on missile defense and invading Iraq.

When terror warnings reached a fever pitch, he went on vacation.

When he was told that America was under attack, he spent the next 20 minutes reading a story about a pet goat.

Then, when he learned that Congress might investigate, he asked them not to. Then he tried to appoint Henry Kissinger as chief truth-seeker. Then he tried to stonewall and run out the clock. He even claimed "executive privilege" to keep his own national security staff from assisting the investigation.

This candidate claims that, in spite of this record, America is safe with him on the job.

Decide for yourself.

His name is George W. Bush.

10. That works too
I liked Take Back the Media's ad about * reading to the kids while 3,000 people were dying at the WTC and Pentagon.

11. I like 'em both
as for visuals; there are plenty of newsreel clips and newspaper headlines to back up each of the statements. How about sending these along to MoveOn?

12. I do, too.
I like ANY anti-bush ads that run. These ideas are super, though. But ANY anti-bush ads will help. At least, to counter the onslaught of pro-bush crap out there.

13. I think your basic idea is a good one
and it goes to the heart of Bush*s failures pre-9-11 and his cover up since. We need an ad like that on the air.

There are a few changes that prior posts have suggested that would help so I'll not repeat them. A solid visual is needed as someone else mentioned.

Two things I would add work into the text:

1. Bush is trying the "strong, steady leader" propaganda line, so I'd go with leader in place of president. Maybe not in all the points, but it should be prominently worked in. What kind of leader is he?

2. I'd be sure to highlight that Chimpy was on a ONE MONTH vacation and did NOTHING in spite of dire warnings of an impending attack from the CIA.

Maybe you can use some of the ideas in these posts and do a rework on your original. Also, what would you use for a visual? That's huge in an TV ad.
