MSNBC/Newsweek : Bush is Cheney's sock puppet (paraphrasing).
I found this article posted by Cal04 in EAOA. It seems like pretty dynamite stuff for a mainstream news site like MSNBC/Newsweek to put on their site, and thought those of you in GD who might have missed this would appreciate what it had to say. Not that it's telling DUers anything we didn't know already, but it is one more sign that the dyke is crumbling and crumbling faster than the Bushies can plug the leaks.

'The Wizard of Oz Letter'
Bush pulls back the curtain on who really runs the White House

WEB EXCLUSIVE
By Eleanor Clift
Newsweek

Updated: 1:50 p.m. ET April 02, 2004A top Republican strategist dubbed the legal document striking the unusual deal “the Wizard of Oz letter” because it strips away the myth that Bush is in charge. Until now, it’s been all speculation about Vice President Cheney’s influence. With the revelation of the tandem testimony, nobody with a straight face can deny Cheney is a co-president or worse, the puppeteer who pulls Bush’s strings. (my emphasis /jc)

Aside from being fodder for the late-night comics, the arrangement confirms Bush’s inability to articulate anything without a script--or a tutor by his side. There’s a reason lawyers don’t take testimony in groups. The whole idea is to get individual recollections and then compare stories to uncover contradictions. Try thinking about it this way: can anyone imagine Bush’s father in a similar situation bringing his vice president? (For those who need a refresher course, the elder Bush was a rocket scientist compared to his son, and the vice president was Dan Quayle.)Even President Reagan testified alone on the Iran-contra scandal. He didn’t insist on having Vice President Bush sit beside him. Of course, Reagan couldn’t remember much of anything. His faculties were failing as a result of Alzheimer’s disease, which he later revealed. Still, Reagan permitted his testimony to be videotaped.

This is a defining moment in the Bush presidency because it reveals weakness at the top.

2. Hasn't this been clear from the beginning?
Dick rules over them all. Wouldn't matter if he was on the ticket or not.

6. Unca Dick, if I get training wheels can I ride all by myself?
I don't think so George. Just remember, you need your Uncle George so you don't fall over and make an ass of yourself in public.

5. About fucking time
It's been clear to anyone with a half a brain that without his money and connections, the pinnacle of Dubya's lot in life would never be higher than Paint Department manager at a Walmart. Dubya's dependence on his betters needs to be hammered until his overweening pride causes him to set sail without his Svengali. The effect of splitting those two would be like splitting the atom -- instant meltdown.

8. paint department manager?
come on, we've all known guys like him. if his last name weren't Bush, and his father were some average joe, he'd be that "odd, stupid toothless on-again off-again the wagon uncle you don't quite trust around your kids"...Bush is a fraud from the toes on up...

9. Heh. Note I said "the pinnacle"
If he ever got that far, it would be through circumstance, not talent. And he'd be walking the floorboards at night, worrying about holding on to his job.
