Kean on MTP: 9/11 report will have "Surprises" -- any guesses?
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/04/04/911.commission.ap/index.html

"Nobody has any interest in having the report sitting around Washington during the election period and pieces of it leaking out. Nobody has any interest in this thing coming out September or October, in the middle of the election," Kean said.

"So I think it is in the White House's interest, our interest, everybody's interest to get this out in July. And I believe they will."

When it is published, he said, both its findings and its recommendations for preventive action will draw attention.

"I've been surprised by some of what we've found, and so, I think, (the public) will, yes," Kean said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

If it's in the White House's interest to release the report earlier than the Fall, does that mean it's going to tell some election-damagaging truth about the Chimp and gang, or is that wishful thinking?

4. Uh...
All of the highjackers, many of them known by the FBI, trained in the United States for months leading up to 911, AND were simply allowed to board planes. "Could have been prevnted"...indeed.

5. 911 could have been prevented -by CLINTON - if he had invaded
a few countries, by-passing GOP COngressional objections.

2. Don't get your hopes up. The New Republic editor yesterday
in one of the morning shows was smirking that the report was going to be terrific for Bush*'s campaign.

the homework, all bushy* had to do was take the glory(He was handed the Hart/Rudman report in Jan 2001).

7. Well he won't be smirking when Bush Co. are indicted for murder
You people with your fatalistic attitudes are going to let them get away with this shit. Don't just sit back and say "I told you so" when the Republicans whitewash this report. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Write letters, talk to your Congress people...whatever. I know that the "Jersey girls" (Kristen Britweiser's 9/11 family group) will be making themselves heard. If enough people follow suit we can place enough pressure on the government where they either have to reveal the truth or risk complete collapse of legitimacy.

13. That's because the WH has to vet the report and they will either
"hannitize" it for their protection or it won't come out til after Nov 2 2004. Probably planned for release on Jan 19 2005 since that's the last chance he'll have and it will come with pardons for all.

8. 9-11 could have been prevented
but we don't know how

it was Harry Truman's fault.

A single bullet was responsible for all four planes going down. but we lost the bullet.

and . . .

we forgot to ask any questions about what actually happened on 9-11, so we just assume that the government's cover story released just hours after the WTC crashes is entirely true.

11. Speaking of *after* the crashes
Is there going to be a separate commission to look into what the administration did ON 9/11 and the days thereafter? Or is that a second phase of this same committee? I noticed they didn't let testimony spill over into the response to the attacks (or lack thereof).

24. I only saw about half of the public testimony,
but I couldn't tell what they WERE trying to determine.

It was mostly an exercise in lobbing softballs at the bushgangsters and the former Clinton people, with the very occasional tough question about a specific event here and there. In the case of Clarke, it was almost pure politics, with the Democrats mostly giving him a chance to tell his story and the Repugs unanimously trying to smear him.

i am not optimistic about this group coming up with anything useful.

Maybe some homilies about better communication or some such.

who expected a serious and truthful inquiry into 9-11. This commission has all the markings of a whitewash brigade.

17. Let's not forget, just a few months ago...
Both Kean and Hamilton said 911 could have been prevented. Of course, the information in the report that will help us understand why they said that, will be redacted.

White House vetting could delay 9/11 report until after election

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The chairman of an independent commission looking into US counterterrorism activities prior to the September 11 attacks said he could not guarantee that the panel's report will be released before the November presidential election because of a protracted White House vetting process.

21. Geeeez
Which makes me believe there *is* something honest/damaging in the report... Isn't "vetting" for that many months a little obvious though, for the gang that didn't even want to allow an extension to the committee?

23. Is Bob Kerrey a war criminal?
Or is that just a nasty rumor, about what happened in Thanh Phong village in February 1969?

Either way, he's a DINO to me and I don't care what he has to say about anything. :puke:

25. I can only guess we'll be surprised by the amount of black marker
editing out lines in the pages. It'll be interesting to see if they attempt to edit it in order to have the report actually seem to state something it clearly doesn't. For example, "John is a hard worker who has showed strong leadrship skills within his team and is not at all lazy." Edited version, "John is...lazy." This group is really good at word games. I won't be surprised at all if there is an attempt to distort the actual content of the documents through sneaky editing tricks. Of course, I mean this to apply to the Clinton papers.

26. Having the WH vet the report worries me, how about you all?

Chairman Thomas Kean, a former Republican governor of New Jersey, said on NBC's "Meet the Press" that he was surprised to learn of the White House review, which he said was required under law to ensure any material that could compromise intelligence was not included.

<snip>

The disclosures indicate that although the White House has made concessions to the panel, including allowing national security adviser Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) to testify publicly this week, it still retains significant influence over the process.

Disputes with the White House over the release of classified material led to a seven-month delay in the release of a separate congressional report on the attacks.

Some material -- particularly focusing on any Saudi role in the attacks -- remains classified. Fifteen of the 19 hijackers who killed more than 3,000 people in the coordinated attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 were Saudis.

more. . .
