Dennis Miller, and I quote
"isn't the truth that Al Gore lost under any recount standard used"?

No, you fucking asshole, that's the exact opposite of the truth.

But Miller and other media whores will continue parroting that line. I'm glad his show is failing, except I doubt it will be cancelled, unlike Donahue.

not only would Gore have won most recount sceneros if Gore had persued it but Bush acctually did a Jim Crow purge of blacks. You can see that in the BBC ram file.

41. nope
If they had counted ALL the uncounted votes in ALL the counties by any reasonable "intent of the voter" standard (such as the one Chimpy signed into law in Texas) Gore would have got more votes than Bush.

If they used the criteria that Gore wanted Bush would have won. Gore's fatal mistake (IMO) was not immediately calling for the right thing to be done namely count ALL the votes.

5. No!
The consortium ran several scenarios. Under the very limited recount that Gore had asked for, he would have lost to Bush by a very slight margin. If the recount had extended statewide, Gore would have won a very slight margin over Bush.

The articles that came out at the time gave the election to Gore in 7 of 9 recount scenarios. It is significant, though, that the limited recount Gore had asked for would have tossed it to Bush.

I was able to locate one reference to this here: http://www.nytimes.com/2001/11/12/politics/12VOTE.html?ex=1081483200&en=c1335494e903607d&ei=5070

You need to read to the end of the article to get the point, something the average Freeper and Bush apologist is unwilling or unable to do. They read the headlines and assumed that they'd read the whole article, and that is the reason they all insist on a total falsehood.

12. Re: No!
Hmm... so Bush would have won even if the recounts continued as they were going anyway. It's a little funny that Gore could have still shot himself in the foot even if his recount scheme were adopted. What a crazy world, eh?

It also points out to me that Dennis Miller's statement wasn't technically wrong... though he's not funny any more and that's a big enough problem in itself.

15. No, because ...
the Florida Supreme court rejected Gore's plan to engage in a limited recount as a violation of equal protection and called for a statewide recount. *That* was the recount that the SCOTUS stopped and under that scenario, Gore would have won.

In fact the Constitution DOES give a remedy re that situation and it was not USED.

31. are you insane?
The Florida law and the Florida Supreme court said that the counting should continue, that they should determine the will of the voters! What they did was completely against the law in the state of Florida! The Supreme Court picked who they wanted to be president. They even said that this ruling could not be used as precedent for anything else in the future.

This is not my president and this fucking dick wad will never ever be my president. And I will never ever get over it.

19. Actually,
If Bush and Katherine Harris would have played it fair and let 50,000 African Americans who had the right to vote, vote. Gore would have won. What is important now is to realize what state this country would be in had the election been conducted fairly.

1. 9/11 would have been prevented.
2. There would have been no recession.
3. 3 Million jobs would not have been allowed to be lost.
4. There would still be a surplus.
5. There would be no deficit.
6. We would still have allies, not willing subjects.
7. States would not be suffering, In turn driving up local taxes.
8. Environmental polluters would still be prosecuted.
9. NO Mad cow disease.
10.Ken Lay would be getting gang raped in prison by now.
11.We would have single payer health care, not the BS Bush & AARP gave us.
12. NO PATRIOT ACT.
13. Osama captured, Afghanistan truly liberated.
14. NO IRAQ WAR!!!
15. NO DEAD SOLDIERS IN IRAQ!!
16. NO DEAD CITIZENS OF IRAQ!!
17. NO HALLIBURTON NO BID CONTRACTS!!
18. No planes downed in China!!
19. No Oil executive joy rides on sub marines, which killed those Japanese tourists.
20. We would still have a tech industry, but what do you expect from an administration still stuck in the cold war?
21. Full disclosure of presidential records.
22. Full transparency and honesty from their president.

Oh God!! This list can go on and on. But you get the picture. At this point it appears that the majority of the votes were right when they chose Gore. I bet that the majority of the votes still wish that their votes had been fairly cast and properly counted.

21. What?
Say what we will about Bush, a number of things that happened were not his fault and Gore could not have stopped them. 9/11, for instance. Gore could not have prevented that. If Clarke is to be trusted, no steps could have been taken starting in January 2000 that would have been likely to prevent 9/11. Also, since the recession was getting underway by the time Clinton left office, that's probably also not something Gore could have prevented... even if we don't consider the fact that presidents have next to no control over the economy. I'm also not entirely sure how Al Gore would prevent Mad Cow...

24. You've got a lot of homework to do.
It's quite possible that Gore would have prevented 9/11. And Bush's economic policies have done nothing but make things worse.

I don't feel like going into details right now.

36. Here is the reality.
9/11 would have been prevented because Gore knew how important the war on terror was and would have kept the same diligence at preventing it. Opposed to Bush's incompetent do nothing strategy that lead to the death of 3000 Americans on 9/11. A million steps could have been taken to prevent 9/11. Man, When will you guys take responsibility for your actions?

The recession: There may have been a slight economic dip in the economy, But a Gore presidency would have know better than to instigate the failed trickle down tax structure of the 80's. This lop sided tax structure does nothing but freeze up capital in the bank accounts of people who didn't really need it in the first place. Gore would have given tax breaks to the middle class which would have instantly injected cash into the system, which would have jump started the slight recession.

Here's another fact for you, The recession started in March of 2001, Around the time of the first proposed tax cuts. Once again, When will you guys take responsibility for your presidency, I swear, It's everybody's fault but your own.

The President, who holds the purse strings and direction of this country has everything to do with the economy. How he chooses to spend the trillions of tax dollars does effect the economy. How he chooses to lead this country does effect the direction of the economy. I have one question for you, Is the economy better off now than it was four years ago?

Furthermore, The Republicans in 2000 said that the good economy was not Clinton's doing but rather Papa Bush's doing and Papa Bush's economy which Clinton had enjoyed for far too long. In 1984 Ronald Reagan took credit for that economy. Now, The Republican spin is that the President has no real effect on the economy, As the Bush presidency resides over a depression era economy, much like the last republican who was responsible for the depression.

Al Gore would have prevented mad cow because he would not have de-regulated every industry to the point of absurdity. Mad cow happened because of the de-regulation that the Bush Admin handed to the beef industry. I live within 50 miles of the hot spot of mad cow in Washington/Oregon, I may have eaten infected cow from that scare. I have been personally affected by this dangerous Republican Administrations.

Out of your whole paragraph I have read nothing but blame and excuses. It's always someone else whose fault it is that you guys don't know how to govern.

As well as Kate Harris for their scrub of the voting rolls. It was the epitome of sleaze politics, and a federal crime. The Bush gang is the least credulous, and most politically successful cabal of politicians in recent memory. But they are due for a very rocky fall.

Phrase it as a question so as to avoid the charge of distorting. "I was just asking!"

Pat Robertson does this shit all the time in his books. "Could it be that (outrageously false assertion)?" "Is our president (outrageously false assertion)?" "Isn't the truth that (outrageously false assertion)?" It's a way to get utter bullshit out into the general conversation without having to be culpable for libel or slander.
