Shi'ite revolt runs deeper than just Sadr's army.....
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0408-01.htm

..The Bush administration has sought to portray the opposition much more narrowly

...But American intelligence officials now believe that hatred of the American occupation has spread rapidly among Shiites, and is now so large that Mr. Sadr and his forces represent just one element..

...According to some experts on Iraq's Shiites, the uprising has spread to many Shiites who are not followers of Mr. Sadr. "There is a general mood of anti-Americanism among the people in the streets," said Ghassan R. al-Attiyah, executive director of the Iraq Foundation for Development and Democracy in Baghdad. "They identify with Sadr not because they believe in him but because they have their own grievances."

2. the entire ineptitude
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 07:13 PM by stellanoir
of this entire occupation, the lack of regard for their culture or faith or economic circumstnces totally appauls me. There are simplistic idiots in charge and they've reaked utter havoc.

The thing that disturbs me the most is that our last major conflict was Vietnam wherein our opposition was the most forgiving of cultures (Buddhist). Muslims are the most vengeful. In that culture, if I have an argument with you, our descendants will be having the same argument in five generations.

As to the Sunni's and Shia's bonding together. . .let's remember that the credo of that culture is as follows. . . "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

4. ya know Postman -
when I hear Bremer talking about capturing Osama and Sadr it occurs to me he sounds like they believe no one will take their places! Bush Inc has always behaved like the war on terrorism can be won - as if every young child - especially the males - in Iraq isn't seeing what is happening to their country and won't be happy to join the fight in a few years.

I'm sick of it; Bush Inc is a bunch of BUFFOONS and our young solders and the people of Iraq are PAYING THE PRICE.
