These are obviously college students (frat boys and sorority girls). Even if the draft started up again - they're safe. It's the faces missing from this crowd that'd be sent - hell it's minorities that make up the predominance of our military now.

16. actually, that's a misconception

the NYT ran an article several months ago about who makes up the different branches of the military, broken down by educational level, gender, and race. The majority of our soldiers are white boys from the suburbs, like my son. It's true that minorities have found opportunities in the military and often find military service a good way to pay for their higher education. Under the all volunteer military, the majority are more educated than the general populace (because they have to have a high school education/minimum) and many often have a couple years of college or more. There is also the misconception that young men are given the choice of either serving in the military or going to jail. I believe this might have happened in the past (I know it did during the draft in the Viet Nam era). However, (at least for the Marines), enlistees can not have record of arrests. The majority of minorities are in the Army. The Marines, for some reason, have the least. Special forces remain predominantly white and male. You might want to read up on who makes up the current all-volunteer forces. There is quite a bit of misinformation.

If someone is in the age range to go to Iraq and they are here supporting the war they are hypocrites. It's really brave and patriotic to stand here where they are safe and sound while being hateful. They need to be respondsible for their actions. Put their money where their mouth is.
