the 'Viet Nam Syndrome'? fuck that noise
joanna goldberg is talking now on cspan and discussing the viet nam syndrome. what is that exactly?

it's a supposed syndrome, thought up by chickenshit chickenhawks, that suggests we lost our will to fight and die for a rightful cause.
when viet nam was raging, we saw dead people with our evening meals everynight, and it hurt our resolve so to speak. and anytime we see young men dying in a war, we get all sissified and squeamish and start talking nonsense like, 'bring our boys home' and other such piffle.

and when daddybush declared a glorious victory in gulfwar one, his actual quote was, 'by god, we've kicked that viet nam syndrome once and for all!', with great glee. i remember him saying it, and i remember feeling ill.

rightwingers always say, 'dont' get in a hurry to bring our boys home, don't get all vaporish when you see marines dying, that's what has to happen'. fuck that noise. there ain't no viet nam syndrome,
it's just that mothers and fathers don't want to see their sons die.

bring them home now from this atrocity posing as a holy crusade.
fuck bush and his viet nam syndrome.

and joanna goldberg, why don't you grab a rifle and shut your fat pampered face?

1. It's because they think we are wimps
if we can't handle the daily death toll. Of course it has nothing to do with the logic behind both wars and that they were tainted. We have dealt with war deaths before, we just can't handle when it's being used illogically.

2. If we brought in the UN, would Vietnam contribute any peacekeepers?
I am thinking "out of the box" here. Sorry for the sidetrack.

3. I still freak when I hear "We interrupt this program for a special report"
The FBI came to our house to investigate a neighborhood draft dodger.

Two uniformed officers delivered the bad news about my niece's husband, who was killed the day he arrived in Viet Nam.

Local news anchors read the daily dead list (as you note above).

We were the vocal majority then... where does Bush* think we went?

We're still here, and we're angrier now than we were than!

4. I always wondered where...
all the Gold Star Mothers were during Viet Nam.

I mean, like, weren't they proud their kids were dying for a good cause? Just like now?

7. During WW2, both my maternal and paternal grandparents ...

... displayed "blue star service banners" in their front windows. These were small banners on which were displayed a number of stars equal to the number of family members (typically sons and daughters) serving in the military. (My paternal grandmother displayed one showing five stars -- the maximum.) These banners were quite common in the neighborhoods in and around Detroit. They were also displayed during the Korean War.

I never saw a single one during the Viet Nam war. (My own family wouldn't display one.) I never saw a single one during Gulf War I. I've seen absolutely none in the last 3 years.

Sen. Clinton and Sen. Hatch have even jointly promoted their use. (See letter.)
