1. Bush I
although not exactly a major war. You'd have to go back to Lincoln to get that.

2. Lincoln?
Teddy Roosevelt?
If you count the first "Gulf War" as a "war, then shrub sr. "won"
that one. :eyes:
Did Reagan "win" the Cold "war"?

The American definition of "war" is so vague that I really can't say...

6. The only Republicans to win an official war
Are Teddy Roosevelt (who was a Republican but a progressive), Abraham Lincoln (who would have been a Democrat today), James Madison was a democratic republican (considered beginnings of republican party) and we sort of won the War of 1812.

10. What war did Teddy Roosevelt win?
McKinley was prez during the Spanish-American War.

Congress did approve the Gulf War with a vote, so I'd say Bush I would be the answer to the question.

5. I guess it does but you'd
have to also count the war(s) on:
Poverty
Drugs
The IRS
"learn'n" aka literacy
Honesty
Fashion (as seen in the latest photos shrub's girls).
The First Amendment
The Bill of Rights
Diversity
Common sense

If the first Gulf war was truly won would we be there now?

7. George H. W. Bush
George Herbert Walker Bush won Gulf War I.

Bush the Elder also won Panama (Not much of a war, though.)

Reagan won against Grenada. (Even less of a war.)

McKinley won the Spanish-American War.

Abe Lincoln won the Civil War, but did not survive to the last days.

9. Gulf War I was a limited war.
Not all wars have total elimination or total defeat of the opposing side as the outcome. World War I was a clear victory for the good guys, but did not prevent the resurgence of a militant Germany in World War II.

We clearly won World War II, but we still had to defend the portion we captured for decades of Cold War.

Gulf War I was a defensive war, in response to Iraqi aggression. Kuwait remains an independent state (not one of my favorites, though), so it was a victory for those that fought on the side that repelled the Iraqis.
