Poll question: What is the reason that al-Jazeera didn't run the Quattrocchi killing? |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-16-04 05:47 PM by JohnLocke
Al-Jazeera is known for running very violent and graphic tapes on its station, including photos of dead Iraqi civilians during the conflicts. Now, however, it seems that al-Jazeera is all soft and sensitive. According to the Associated Press, the station "broadcast parts of the footage showing all four captives together but not the parts showing the killing." The killing showed Italian security guard Fabrizio Quattrocchi dying defiantly -- "Now I’m going to show you how an Italian dies."
I'm fine with them showing graphic photos. I'm fine with them showing footage of things unflattering to Bush and his policies. I'm NOT fine with what appears to be an 'Fox-like' double standard in their 'news.'
so, what do YOU think the reason that al-Jazeera refused to run the parts of the footage was?

that's a good question to ask al Jazeera. Is their explanation included in that AP article?

it's a good question, I'd like to hear al Jazeera's explanation, but the poll is kind of silly since no one here knows. Why don't you just tell us what you think?

...that it shows just how really depraved the Insurgents really are. The sickening part about this is that it shows Bush to the Good Guy. After all, Bush didn't kill them; the Insurgents did.
How much Bush influenced the Insurgents is for another Thread.

8. Far as I know, they don't show executions |
|
I don't get al Jazeera, so maybe I'm wrong. Did they show Pearl's execution? I saw all kinds of dead people on TV during the war, but I never saw a close up of people being killed. Has anyone here ever seen al Jazeera show people being executed?

And got a ton of crap for it. Maybe they did not want it again. Or maybe they are biased. I don't know. I don't work there.

12. OK...so the debate is? |
|
Americans questioning the standards of a foreign media outlet that has been banned, bombed, hacked and indicted...but they are not questioning domestic 'news' delivery?
Here's a blast from the Past: NYSE bars Al Jazeera reporter The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has banned an Al Jazeera reporter from its trading floor saying it was restricting access to "responsible" networks, as the Arab satellite television channel faces criticism in the United States for its coverage of the war in Iraq.
"We've had to focus our efforts on networks that focus on responsible business coverage," NYSE spokesman Ray Pellecchia said.
He described the Al Jazeera ban as "indefinite".
etc etc...
So now Al-Jazeera (not the .info one) is being polled for their tastefulness?
Amusing really...
