Woodward's Book is a "Slam Dunk" Crock...
Well, it seems those of you who predicted that the White House's claim of being afraid of the book was a crock and that Woodward is a Bush lackey are right on the mark. Just saw the CBS 60-Minutes excerpt of it. Woodward talks of a Dec. '03 meeting with Bush, Tenent and Tenent's side-kick McLaughlin (??). The sidekick shows Bush photos the WMD sites, etc. Ahhhh, but our noble and sharp president says "is that all"....he questions, he probes and he says it will not fly with the public. But, alas, Tenent, Woodward reports jumps to his feet and tells our noble leader, "it's a slam dunk, a slam dunk". Geeee, what terrible outing of Bush, right?? It gives him the image of such a deep thinker that he can analyze those photos and see the problems. And it gives the image of a dirty, unworthy servant (Tenent) who mislead and did not serve his master well. This book is a f--king whitewash of Bush. The other great revelation is that he prepared for Iraq war two months after the Afghanistan invasion---Americans are not going to get all upside ag about that.

1. Not only that, it's designed to make you believe that Iraq was only
thought about after 9/11. When we all know and O'Neill has said it was on Bush's agenda at his first big Principal's meeting.

8. Exactly. What about the PNAC plan for war with Iraq?
PNAC wanted a war with Iraq back in the late 1990's.

Bush was looking for a war with Iraq as soon as he was installed as Prez.

3. Woodward is a GOP shill
This book is just cover for the administration. Any book that makes it sound like Bush is a decisive leader has got to be embellishing the facts in a major way. It sounds like they are placing the blame on Tenet (CIA) again, also remember the O'Neill book where he was saying that they were planning on taking out Iraq from the first cabinet meeting? How about the reports by the senators who Bush told him "Fuck Saddam. We're taking him out." in the summer of '01.

4. 2 months AFTER? Didn't Clarke say Iraq was their focus from Day One?
You're right. It sounds like this "expose" is really cover.

6. Agreed
I emailed CBS that some of us are on to them. This is only an attempt to make bush look intelligent and to cast doubts on Paul O'Neill's version of the Iraq timeline.

Bob Woodward is lying.

7. I disagree...
What I got from the piece was that
(A) Cheney runs the country and
(B) at BEST Bush had an inkling that his "case" wasn't convincing (aka the "truth" wasn't convincing) and then WENT TO WAR on lies and Tenet's BS "Intellingence" anyway. HE DID IT ANYWAY.

That's not a good case for Bush. And remember, we know that at Camp David they talked about Iraq and then discounted it and rolled out Condi's map of Afghanistan. So then Bush WENT AHEAD ANYWAY, first chance he got.

What was shown on CBS Nightly News is another layer of negativity slathered on BushCo (or is it DickCo?).

Items:

- Cheney and Powell hate each other
- the Iraq war was planned within days of 9-11

Read the book or are there some here that wish us not make up our own minds?

and trust me, I believe it. But what I'm saying is from that piece I just saw on CBS news, I didn't get the sense that Woodward was saying bush was a decisive leader or anything positive. Of course we all know the Iraq war was planned ages ago, but is the BEST whitewash Bushco can do really a book that says "Bush wanted to go to war with Iraq and did so even though he knew the intelligence case was BS" is positive??? Really?

12. Tenet has been OPPOSED to any such language used in public....
...such as the 16 words in Junior's State of the Union speech, and all of the WMD talk in Powell's UN speech.

Woodward is lying, and lying badly.

no one speaks to the "black boy" and that, thank god, there is a determined bulldog like Cheney who is the right hand of our second son of God.

18. A Post Script Question to my post: where the hell did Woody get the
info in the first place?? He wasn't sitting in the room during these times. He had this shit spoon fed to him. A lot he had spoon fed from Powell because I understand that's where he got a lot of leaks (thus the shit on Cheney remarks). But other things like the scene with Tenent, etc. was spoon fed to him by Bush and the White House propaganda machine. You know, after listening to this douche bag for three years, I'm beginning to wonder if Nixon was innocent!!!! This uncovered a major scandle???????????

22. He is a top media spook
always was an asset, Navy intelligence, assigned to reign in Bernstein I imagine. Was never a legitimate good guy, although certainly a legitimate disappointment for those who made that mistake.
The history of the CIA's influence in domestic media is a rather important basis for cogent analysis and a free mind in the maelstrom.
See Bernstein's Oct 20th 1977 Rolling Stone article "The CIA and the Press" or dig out some OLD books from the local library if they are still available. Better information there than is allowed by lawmakers in modern corporate media.

20. Well, fuck me......
Kudos to those DUers that had this book nailed. I was certainly "sold" a bad bill of goods...

President Bush worried that his friend British Prime Minister Tony Blair's government might fall because the British public overwhelmingly opposed the war. So, on the eve of battle, Mr. Bush gave Blair the option of withholding British troops from combat. But Blair stuck with the president, confirming Mr. Bush's admiration of what he called Blair's "cojones."

..and more complete bullshit at...

21. What's significant is not Tenet's "slam dunk" but Bush's bull
Tenet's "slam dunk" was in response to Bush's own admission that the evidence was weak. Whatever Woodward is trying to do, Bush still comes out toast.

23. same BS as in his previous kiss up to W: they found
found whatever "controversial" Rove statement and blurbed all over - and made it into a best seller.
Air America's Majority Report played speeches from Jan 17, 2001: Sandy berger talking about OBL, Condi about Saddam, WMD and all that jazz...
AFTER Afghanistan? yeah, right. Thanks, I'm staying with Richard Clarke's book. And Wes Clark's. Remember this?
