If a bomb goes off in the forest, and the press doesnt report it, ........
does it make a noise? Although the normal analyst might say it is a very big story if one of the three branches of government misappropriates funds designated by Congress for another purpose, but if the press ignores it, is it a story at all? Although it may in fact be a bombshell, could it be that no one will hear the explosion?

Is it possible that our press is too far gone to report what is directly in front of their noses? Give them a light and fluffy enertainment story, with a celebrity interview, and send them home. They are not equipped to do the job of real journalists. That will be left to "reporters" on Internet chat rooms and elsewhere to figure out what is going on. The establishment media and press are no longer able to distinguish between what is news and what is political babble...

1. Of course not.
If it's not in the press, it didn't happen.

Just trying to understand how the Republicans think.

2. Watergate in the 2000's
Remember when reporters were searching for news and discovered coverups? Now there is information overload. You want to hide something, put it in the open along with sensationalism, fluff, stuff that appeals to the lowest group, and set the strident right wing radio hogs in motion. Bury the meat and give them the candy.
Fortunately, DU'ers tend to be more cynical. I prefer to imagine groups of us in our vans much like those guys on X-files. Of course, we are much cooler and have better hair. :-)
The press doesn't have the greatest ability to divine importance of news any more. The pressing needs to sell, sell, sell and to increase ratings seems to drive all.
The press should have groups like DU so they can post meaningless polls and threads and avidly watch them, counting the number of replies. Oops! That's what I do, I'm infected!

4. It completely blows my mind
that there are SO MANY impeachable points
and no one ( NO ONE) is heading in that direction

Worse Than Watergate?

5. our mantra must be : Impeach, impeach
Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 08:53 PM by riverwalker
impeach....impeach...impeach. Keep saying it until Joe Sixpack and Aunt Millie are used to hearing the word in connection with dumya & co. Soon, the other words and concepts like "illegal" "unconstitutional" "crimes and misdemeanors" will slowly sink into their heads. Repeat it like a mantra. Impeach...impeach...

What they have done is CRIMINAL under any law, and they should go to trial.

7. Interesting Question!
I still have hope that the 60 Minutes interview tomorrow night will start the discussion.

Woodward is respected by the press, he works for the Post, & I dont think this story will be ignored. Also, he will be doing his book tour, & hitting all media outlets. The larry king show monday nite will have a large audience.

I ve been wrong before, however, & stories I thought were huge, were mostly ignored.
