It seems like each week there's a new book by some insider from the bush administration where they rip bush apart. All these authors are very credible and what they say has been very damaging. Each new piece of news builds on last weeks or corroborates what the previous had said. The evidence is getting piled very high that the bush administration is inept and corrupt. The situation in Iraq is terrible and the economy is only good if you are a millionaire.
So why is it that bush is doing well in the polls? If anything, it looks like Kerry is slipping. bush is getting hammered in the news and the American public still think he is the most qualified leader. If bush can withstand this onslaught from the daily news of the latest fiasco and still look good in the polls, we don't stand a chance of getting the WH back. And the Electoral College surveys look even worse.
Isn't there anything that can make the public take their collective heads out of the sand?

2. Exactly--and why in the hell in those electoral polls would people |
|
in states that have suffered so much still want this asshole? Could it have anything to do with the poll the AFL0-CIO commissioned to have run on their members which showed the members thought Kerry was aloff and boring but Georgie was a great guy. Didn't anyone tell them Bush desperately wants them and their kind striken from the earth?? I'm sick of fighting for morons. Let them rot. And I'm looking foward to even cheaper goods as these boys lose their good paying jobs and some sweatshop worker can make it for so much less that I can buy more, have more for pennies. Time to stop fighting for these people.

"hammered in the news" -- part of it -- the American public HATES the news media elites with a passion.
And -- there's frankly, been way to much screaming by leading Democrats, and way to many conspiracy theories espoused in public. The public simply appears sick of it, and will re-elect GWB in all likelihood.

You cannot say anything constructive, without being immediately attacked, or means tested. Are your thoughts in line with what the most liberal on the board is thinking? Are your thoughts EXACTLY in step? Isn't being so closed minded what is accused of the other party?
I guess I'm a plant.

6. Why? And how do you know they are not contributing? |
|
I am worried and I contribute as much as I can.
I stay informed, and I talk to people. I contribute financially. I write LTTEs, I support MoveOn, Planned Parenthood, etc., etc.
I am an officer of my county Democratic central committee, and a precinct committeeman. I register people to vote.
The most important election of my lifetime is coming up in November, and I am worried.

I'm doing a lot of the same things you're doing, except to be a party operative. And I see the CNN poll today and SHEESH! How can this be happening? Just bizarre. I hate sighing it off with - "the people deserve what they get" because, unfortunately, I wind up getting it, too. Don't know WHAT to make of all this.
And WHERE THE F--- IS KERRY? I heard he was supposed to unleash a new round of ads THIS WEEK. It's now THIS WEEK. WHERE ARE THEY?
It's confounding to me. I'm just stumped. And frankly, Kerry should NOT have taken a vacation. Not yet. As the battle's warming up, he bails out for a VACATION. Seems to me we've got somebody in the White House right now who does that and we correctly scream bloody murder about it. Kerry's sat on his ass and lost the momentum he had going, allowing the bushies to catch up. UNFORGIVABLE!!
And I've written to the DNC with ideas, campaign slogans, usable critiques of their pundits and approaches, attack plans, etc., and have received responses. But the last one, just a few weeks ago, indicated they're STILL trying to get their surrogates together. I mean, HELLO! IT'S MID APRIL. NO, IT'S ACTUALLY LATER. WHEN ARE WE PLANNING TO GET STARTED?????? ANY TIME BETWEEN NOW AND 2012?
Just unbelievable. bush should be on the ropes now. If it were Clinton, people all over would be doing more than screaming bloody murder by now. I do NOT understand it. Unless God actually WANTS His hand forced into Armageddon...

I'm doing all those things and am a District chair and a state committee-person and I am worried too. I tried to work with the Kerry campaign in the Primary and I was shocked at their ineptitude. I am still stunned that he won. I am seeing a lot I didn't like reemerging and it's scary. Kerry was my first choice because in the beginning, I thought he was the most presidential and the most electable.By the end of our primary I wasn't so certain and took a long look at Clark and Edwards. My husband voted for Clark and I voted Kerry. But I don't see any real fight in the Kerry camp at the moment and he is agreeing with Bush way too much. There is something creepy about this. And I wanted to vent too. As far as always being sunshine, that doesn't work. you must recognize your mistakes or you are doomed to repeat them.

13. Bush has yet to fire his big guns at Kerry |
|
and remember the October Surprise ?
The Fundie base is entrenched in their beliefs and not likely to listen no matter what is revealed about Bush.
It is the Average John E Taxpayer we need to reach and knock Bush off the "War on Terrorism Block"
I just don't want to see Dems become overly confident with early poll numbers. Remember Bush's poll numbers this time in 2000

7. DON'T PAY ATTENTION TO ANY POLLS TILL JULY |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 07:42 PM by Prodemsouth
Nobody is thinking about the election right now. However, Kerry should learn from these polls. I think his run to the right is offending many people (Nader above 5 in some polls). He does not need to run from the word liberal. People think you are wishy washy when you do. He needs Learn from that other Mass Dem, you remember the Governor who ran in 88. He ran from the word and people thought he was wishy washy. Kerry needs to look like he is firm about something. He is developing a perception of being wishy washy- ala Dukasis. The vacation was a mistake too- he could have been putting out a moderate free press campaign (not to distract people from Clarke but still have his name out there in the press) He should have came on positive contrasting himself to Bush who was having one of his worst weeks ever with Clarke.
Edit:Richard Clarke, had las name spelled wron.

I'm still not convinced that with so much money and power at stake some polls are not slanted. A poll of 3000 in a heavy Republican area code in Texas will look much different than a poll of 3000 in a heavy Dem area code in Mass. Tailor to fit your desired outcome. Just get it right the day before the election and they'll call you a wizard.

18. What can we do? Hold a REAL polling of popular opinion! |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 08:16 PM by BostonTeaParty04
I am so frustrated. On one hand, we intelligent people on DU say the polls are bull. And then on the other, we tremble in horror at the results.
I don't get it.
The polls are bull. They are simply part of the Diebold election delivering plan. Keep it out there in the public mind that bush and kerry are neck and neck, and then announce bush wins! How perfect. Then the majority of the people would say: "oh, it was a close race, and bush inched ahead. bummer!"
If we had a REAL poll in every state of the union, we would find bush at 25%! Or less.
All we have to do is come up with some real money to conduct a REAL poll of registered voters........and that would include newly-registered voters..... And take it out of the public consciousness that bush has some sort of lead...
So, yeah, there is something we can do about these poll results. Get the real answer at to where people stand.
Will we do it? Fuck no. We will sit here and bitch and moan and do everything EXCEPT take the bull by the horns.
/end of rant.

19. During 9 hrs today in hospital waiting room, ads trashing Kerry |
|
must have played every 15 minutes. Over and over. "This is George W. Bush and I approve this message..." I had no control over it, had to wait for reports from the cardiologists and couldn't leave the room. I was about ready for open heart surgery after that. I can't believe that a lot of people are not being brainwashed. But, do they vote? I'm not giving up yet. That negative crap might turn off a lot too. Maybe Kerry will strike back with something positive.
