When does the "War on Terror" end? |
|
Possible answers: a)If you define it as a war, never. b)Armageddon. (some devoutly wish for) c)When every terrorist is dead or imprisoned. or d)(proceeds from c) When every terrorist and all of their family are dead or imprisoned.
Could it be that we have moved into Orwell's state of "perpetual war?"
Perhaps a better metaphor for the current state should be "chronic disease."
Flame away.

3. That's the beauty of *'s war. |

Technically, it would have to go on forever. This is my problem with the detainees in Guantanamo. In most wars you can hold them until the end of the war. If the war never ends, you can hold them without charges forever. Circular logic.

Which is roughly the same thing as never. IMO, there will always be terrorists.

9. Never. . .if these idiots stay in power. . . |
|
I said shortly after 9/11 that a war on terror is about as plausible and winnable as a war on drugs. More to the point, I truly appreciate what former Senator Bob Kerrey said, which was, " you can't wage a war with a tactic."
Every night I hear a suspected terrorists were killed. . .and I wonder. . if the rule of law has not been trashed irrevocably? people should never be killed or incarcerated 'cause they're under suspicion only . This provides the powers that be with the ultimate disclaimer and is the most dangerous development of my lifetime. You're either with us or against us is the most simplicitically idiotic foreign diplomacy ever put forth.
Peter Ustinov died a couple of weeks ago. Someone quoted him as having said, " Terrorism is war waged by the poor. War is terrorism waged by the rich." That says it all.

It's a perpetual war, designed only to buttress the current power structure. It's casualties are relatively light (in comparison to real wars).
It's built to last.
