two GIs dead five wounded in boat attack
That's the latest from FAUX. Which means it's probably a higher casualty count than even that.

16. Yeah, that's right, what Haifa pipeline?
What are you trying to say? If you have evidence of the existance of a pipeline from Iraq to Israel then why don't you show it to me?

19. Don't get all pissy
I stand corrected. You and I obviously disagree on the Israel/Palestine issue, but to be honest I really thought that an Iraq-Israel pipeline was just some lie cooked up by the likes of Asad. That's why I didn't believe you. I never thought anyone would have built such a thing, but I never thought all the way back to the British.

20. I get pissy....
because there are some here, on these forums, who appear to serve
an agenda. You came across as one such poster.

There is much more and all you have to do is some research. I'm not
here to tell you what to believe or what action to take. I am just
trying to do my part, as difficult as it may seem, to impart
knowledge onto others. I cannot make you believe anything...all I can
do is show you the way and let YOU make the final choice.

That being said, I'd like to state that yes, you and I DO disgree
when it comes to the Israeli/Palestinian issue BUT I think that you
and I have the same common goal: human LIFE and DIGNITY for both.

Just remember...violence begets violence...and unless its stopped, it
will continue.

9. New tactics
I would have been doing this a long time ago, but they are attacking on so many fronts now we'll be chasing our tail trying to catch up. In the meantime the military gets weaker and weaker from all the tail chasing.

12. Yes, check out "Latest Breaking."
Boat attacks on both the Basra terminal, which is shut down but may not have been damaged, and an off-shore well on the Iran/Iraq border. Very little info on the latter.

It's a very bad day in Iraq. Usually I bear up pretty well, but the clear escalation of naval attacks has really gotten to me today. My father and one of my uncles were in the Navy in WWII, and I do have a certain soft spot for that branch of the service.

The only song going through my head is the old Vietnam song,

One, two, three, what are we fighting for . . .

Well, today I'd say it's Oil.

15. I'm not yet convinced they were sailors.
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 05:36 PM by VolcanoJen
Reuters refers to the two killed as the "coalition boarding team," and MSNBC did just report that they were American.

Sounds to me like they were contractors, not sailors.

ON EDIT: ABC World News Tonight referred to them as "US Sailors." I stand corrected.

21. They could have been boarding teams....
the Navy and the CG conduct "board and search" operations on a daily
basis in the Persian Gulf.
Either way...I think this whole story is just plain "strange".

18. Stories seem to differ on the events
.
.
.

From the WASHINTON TIMES

Basra, , Apr. 24 (UPI) -- So-called suicide speedboats were used to attack Iraq's two main oil export terminals in the southern city of Basra, ABC News reported Saturday.

British officials said a boat exploded alongside a ship tied up at Basra's offshore oil terminals.

A coalition vessel then intercepted a second boat near the exclusion zone around the terminals.

Another explosion occurred soon after the intercepted boat was boarded.
___________________________________________________________

From BBC News

"Two American sailors were killed and five were injured when their vessel tried to intercept one of the boats."

/snip/

An eight-man coalition interception team was approaching one of the boats when it exploded, flipping the coalition boat and killing two crew members, said the US navy's Bahrain-based Fifth Fleet.

Five crew were also injured, said a spokeswoman.

The two other boats apparently exploded some minutes later.
___________________________________________________________

So the one article indicates that one boat made it right up to the oil rigs,

While the second article indicates that none of the boats reached the rigs.

Also, it doesn't seem to indicate whether the other boats exploded on their own, or were shot out of the water.

I suppose we'll never know the "real" story?

oh well, almost getting used to this game of "clue"

(sigh)
