So is the Pope giving aid to our enemies?
from - http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20040429/ap_on_re_eu/italy_iraq_hostages

The families of three Italians held hostage in Iraq led a march near St. Peter's Square on Thursday after the abductors threatened to kill the captives unless Italians carried out a "huge demonstration" against the war.

Pope John Paul II sent a message to the marchers, saying he had celebrated Mass for the captives and urging them to keep their spirits up.

---

If Kerry, Kennedy, H Clinton & so many others can be said to be aiding our enemy because they criticize the lack of war planning, then the repugs should stick to their guns and fire at the pope.

Will it happen?

1. There is absolutely nothing in common with
Edited on Thu Apr-29-04 02:53 PM by Tinoire
the stand that Kerry, Kennedy, & H Clinton took over the war and the Pope's.

You are also mistaken to thing that the Republicans have any fondness for the Pope or that most Catholics have any fondness for Republicans.

3. Sadly, a lot of Catholics have "fondness" for Republicans
because of the huge campaign by the church to vote for "anti-abortionists".

Many have become one-issue voters, and are blind to anything else. Too bad they can't see the loss of life during war.

Not meant as an argument to your post... just an addition.

5. not really
Catholics vote 66% dem, and that number would be higher if the abortion issue were framed differently.

6. Well, I guess it's just that I (sadly) know the 33% then..........
And, yes, "if it were framed differently"

I was successful in changing the mind of one Catholic (who was bombarded with mailings about the "partial birth abortion" issue), when I told her how it was *REALLY* used medically. She was totally ignorant about that...... they are hit hard with propaganda.

11. I kept bringing that up with my best friend from high school.

He recently solved the problem of his rightwing buddies hatred for his Roman Catholic religion. He converted to Baptist.

2. The Repubs aren't big fans of Catholics anyway
Bob Jones, as you know, is one of their big donors.

A big contributor to the GOP?

And ins't he Catholic?

And it seems to me that a certain Romanm Catholic received quite a bashing here on DU not so long ago.

His name is Mel Gibson.

9. Oh well, then by all means
Let's string up all the Catholics and shoot them in that case.

Never mind the Kennedys (all Catholics)
Never mind Mother Teresa
Never mind the Pope screaming about the war and the injustices foistered on the world by corporate globalization and materialism
Never mind Dorothy Day, Roy Bourgeois, the Berrigan brothers, Archbishop Romero, the little 80 year old nuns in jail for protesting School of the Americas or the ones mowed down by US-trained SOA thugs in Latin America

Let's just concentrate on a few ass-holes who are no more Catholic than Bush is Christian and mow the entire group down.

That'll do it!

12. Mel belongs
to a traditionalist Catholic movement, not the RC Church (Vatican II).
