... 'cause I *do* think we should remain "committed to democratizing Iraq." That doesn't mean we have to keep our forces there, though.
The poll was too vague to have any meaning.

9. I have to agree that the question was,...odd,... |
|
It almost puts people in the position of being for or against democracy.
On the other hand, I am pretty sure they intentionally left out reference to troops,...in order to take that divisive notion out of the picture.
Know what I mean?

The issue certainly can't be boiled down to a simple yes/no question.

Do you believe the United States should remain committed to democratizing Iraq? Currently: 20% yes 80% no
Guess the nation didn't like the idea that we are thinking of turning things over to Saddam's generals in efforts to slow the 'insurgency'
So, tell me again why all those lives were destroyed. WMD? 9-11? Terra? Torture and rape by bad men? Freedom and democracy?

7. I watched that and found myself doing cartwheels in the hall!!! |
|
I mean, my God,...isn't something like THAT being presented on any primetime major news media (especially Dobbs who does retain the respect of a broad community) really totally awesome!!!
:bounce:
I felt inspired. We are heading another "Vietnam" off at the pass.

10. Lou's question is bullshit, as usual |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-29-04 07:08 PM by Aidoneus
The invaders are not "democratizing" a damn thing through their occupation, so the question is irrepairably flawed and unanswerable.

I thought this was amusing:
Grange on Point' Then, retired Brig. General David Grange will joins us for more on the situation in Iraq.
I thought that was amusing. :D
Bullshit poll, though. Hopelessly flawed.

There's a big difference between stabilizing and democratizing. We need to stabilize, but I don't believe we can create a democracy there. Heck we don't really have one here. If nothing else this administration has shown me that.

17. Listen to General Odom, John Kerry! |
|
If you don't, you will become the Democratic Nixon, turning a Republican war into a Democratic one.
Your "stay the course" in Iraq SUCKS! Bring the troops home as soon as you take office, or face the consequences!

unlike Bush, I think Kerry will be able to make responsible decisions once he is in office, and will not stubbornly cling to an untenable situation.
Come January 20, if the situation remains anything like what it is now, I suspect he will work out some face-saving way to get out of there ASAP.
Certainly right now, I don't see any better alternative.

This is good to know, but it doesn't fit the Late Breaking News guidelines, so I'll have to move this to General Discussion.
Thanks! :hi:

21. Saw the show and Lou had a couple great hits on Bush |
|
Not only the General that said we should get out but he has been livid lately over this outsourcing, etc. Well tonight he did a piece on now how the jobs that are left here, the employers want filled with foreigners and they are brinning more and more in. Then there was the AFL-CIO complaint that Bush is not enforcing the trade agreements with China. He played the responses of all these repukes saying that would be "protectionists"....he snarled and asked how that is protectionism and said that every time someone challenges their ignorant views of the economy, they are called protectionists. I hope Dobbs is getting throught because his 'type' of show draws men and the repuke kind to boot. Maybe something will start to sink in!!
