Ted Rall asks: Could Bush cancel the election?
Edited on Fri Jul-11-03 07:02 AM by arcos
AUTHORITARIANS GONE WILD

He has canceled elections in Iraq (news - web sites). He will probably cancel them in Afghanistan (news - web sites). Will George W. Bush put the kibosh on elections in the United States next year?

Frightened by Bush's rapidly accruing personal power and the Democrats' inability and/or unwillingness to stand up to him, panicked lefties worry that he might use the "war on terrorism" as an excuse to declare a state of emergency, suspend civil liberties and jail political opponents.

1. No he can't and he won't
Rall goes on to answer his own question.
-----
Bush may be the kind of guy who sees 99 percent odds as 2 percent short of a sure thing, but I bet he'll look at his $200 million campaign war chest and decide to let the people decide. He'll surely want to win legitimately in 2004--albeit for the first time. Though they're capable of anything, Bush's people probably know that Americans wouldn't stand for two putsches in four years.
-------
He's right.

2. bush can never win legitimately.
he is running now from a position of advantage that he gained illegitimately. that can never be legitimate. and even if it could be considered legitimate he will not run a clean campaign and he will not tell the truth. bush can never be legitimate because he is essentially and fundamentally illegitimate.

7. Gee, Ted Rall reads my posts....Cool!
I wonder if he enjoys them as much as I do his 'toons?

I've been predicting SINCE last year that this will happen in '04. The mid-terms were safe, only the pretzeldential election will be "suspended for the duration".

8. He won't need to cancel...
the election.
He will have an overwhelming amount of money from his corporate overlords to conduct his campaign. (He raised more money in June alone than all nine Democrats have raised so far in all their campaigns combined.)
He will have the complicit cooperation of all major media. (They know who looks out for them.Their "news" stories and programs will have a pro-BushCo™ spin to them.)
He will have the edge of Diebold and other GOP owned computer systems throughout the country. ("It is not he who casts the votes that matters , but he who counts the votes."-Joseph Stalin Voter News Service the media consortium that called the 2000 election correctly for Gore was disbanded. Who knows if there will be any reliable exit poll info in 2004 as a check against vote fraud)
And, if really desperate, we may be subject to another high profile terrorist attack. (Scared people fall back on the "leader", whomever that may be.)
