how might post-election anger manifest itself? |
|
again, i fear a major constitutional train wreck tomorrow night, and i wonder how each side might react initially to defeat. i'm no soothsayer, but i'm very nervous.

1. Even if there was a landslide.... |
|
There are a lot of high emotions and plenty of crazy people on both sides. I fear to speculate.

2. Hopefully the kool-aid won't be as strong tomorrow |

The religious right might do some crazy things, they are very passionate, I hope however the Christian side of them prevents anything that could get people killed.

4. If bush wins, demonstrations (peaceful) |
|
need to occur frequently in Washington. Speeches for the return to the constitution and Bill of Rights need to take place at different memorials. They need to be done at the different memorials.
If Kerry wins, safe but prudent control measures such as scans for weapons at rightwing demonstrations should occur. Kerry will need to try to reach out with speeches. There probably needs to be a watch for groups that would do harm to the Gay and Lesbian communities and abortion clinics.

5. I think Bush knows he's already lost |
|
There was a comment last night on the news about one of his aides saying they actually prefer if he loses that it's by a wide margin and doesn't go into legal battles "to ensure voter confidence in the system" ... which I think is to help prepare their supporters mentally for the scenario.
We had the very strange interview with Bob Kerrey last night saying that if Kerry loses, they shouldn't contest the results ... which makes no sense because we know they've been tossing registrations, not mailing ballots and using lists to disenfranchise people again. After we let the last election get stolen, there's no way we'd do that twice in a row. That made no sense at the time, but if both sides know from internal polling that Kerry's got it locked up, it would make sense for them to go public with that statement. If they know it's Kerry in a landslide, they can afford to make statements like that.
If Bush thought he was anywhere near as popular, they wouldn't be using the handpicked crowds.
I think the republican plan is to not contest it, and start rumors that they could have won if they did contest it. They've seen how the anger over the stolen election fired us up ... it wouldn't surprise me if they try to capitalize on that in 2008 for themselves.
