mock election in school today |
|
a few weeks ago, we filled out registration forms and handed them into government/history teachers. we were going to use a real lever-style machine, but they needed parts to fix one being used in the real election or something.
so they implemented an html-based system; big pictures of the candidates (including nader) and their names. i wasn't happy, since i had just done a research paper on electronic voting a week or two before.
ive heard so many stupid things today...
"im sorry but kerry just talks like a girl" "VOTE BUSH!!" as a hand is slammed down on my binder (with kerry/edwards sticker)
lots of nader and bush votes in the younger grades, should be interesting to see the final tally.

1. My daughter's school had Kerry winning by a 3 to 1 margin |
|
I took her and her friend to the poll while I voted. They saw Bush signs which were pulled out of the grounds. They wanted to pull them all out. I said, "No, that's not civil." So they went and stomped on the ones already pulled. A couple of guys standing outside watching were laughing and said, "Go ahead. Pull them all."

I've never heard this one before. Kids will say anything.
Don't read too much to your school's mock election. It is meaningless. Ross Perot won the mock election at my school when I was in junior high. He didn't come close to winning the actual election.

5. I organized and ran a mock election in my Middle School |
|
I had the help of some of my amazing 12 and 13 year old students to do the counting & running around. We had the candidates for president & U.S, house of representatives from our district, plus 4 other issues that were on our city's ballot on the school's. I copied a absentee ballot so they could experience the real thing.
We were determined to get the ballots counted by the end of the school day, and we did. In a school of close to 800 middle school kids, it was a 4 to 1 margin victory for Kerry.
Four years ago the vote went to Nader followed by Gore and not many votes for Bush. Obviously I work in a very liberal college neighborhood. We have some very politically aware kids at my school. Many of them volunteered to work for Kerry. :hippie:

teaches in the south bronx. Her mock election in class had a 29-1 final result for Kerry.
She was so proud of her students to say the least.
