It's been a long 25 years

I realized that next year makes a quarter century since the Reagan 'revolution'. That's when it all really began though there were the roots of liberal bashing from Nixon (in '72 especially).

Today is deja vu although quite a bit worse. I had this same sick, disillusioned feeling in '80 and '84 and '88, even when the outcome was known in advance.

Last night I hardly slept...just like four years ago. Disbelief, sadness, even some fear raced through me. Such hope so quickly shattered.

I have vowed to stay away from the media at all costs..it is toxic. I had already withdrawn some but I just can't take it anymore.

I've been torn about DU. I've spent so much time here over the years; learned so much. Although I don't really know any of you, I feel that you're all so familiar that there is comfort to be had here like no other place.

I'll be 50 soon. I never could've imagined the place we find ourselves in today. I've always had hope for the future but I find it difficult now to hope for any progressive change in this country in the near future, probably in my lifetime.

Realizing that my outlook for the future as bound by my (expected)life has gone from positive and hopeful to sadly resigned is somewhat shattering.

I think I need DU, we need each other, as we pick up the pieces and move forward to ...what I'm not sure.

I'm no longer mad_as_hell...I'm just really sad....
