I have seen the light. Throughout history there have been plagues that have all but eliminated humans from the planet. They are cyclic. The survivors had an immunity the dead did not. Populations regrew and the plagues reappeared taking those lacking immunity, again. Biologically, the most effective pathogens grew, and still grow, in domesticated livestock. The pathogen that has killed our democracy and has infected much of the world is a philosophy. Much as domesticated livestock have provided a breeding pool for biologic pathogens so has one predominate philosophy been the agar for the pathogen that is this most recent plague. It is has three principle manifestations, they are the Abrahamic religions. As I have stated above, I have seen the light and welcome and embrace the coming of Armageddon and the rapture. Whatever it takes to get those people off the planet.

3. I accidentally let this idea slip out in conversation with step-dad. |
|
He's an evangelical fundie and MAN did this ever piss him off.
So I guess the belief that GOD will kill all of humanity is just peachy, but that Ebola or Marburg or hantavirus or SARS will, well, that's abhorrent.
And, on an unrelated note, wasn't there an line of philosophical thought that religion actually was like a viral meme? Anybody remember that or have I just stumbled into a false memory again?

5. I want the Rapture NOW! |
|
I never thought that I could want the Rapture more than when I was a fundamentalist, but it's true. Now I want it more than ever.
It would be quite refreshing to wake one morning to find all of the fundamentalists gone, the televangelists off the air and the megachurches empty.
I can do without the death and destruction that their beliefs encompass.
