KERRY Should Remain a Party Elder Statesman |
|
I'm somewhat troubled by the Democratic Party's tendency to cast aside its former presidential candidates aside like old coats when they don't win.
John Kerry is still in the Senate. A number of DU'ers want him as Senate Democratic leader - in truth, I don't think it's feasible. He probably wants a little time out of the national spotlight and time to recover - everybody who's run for President and lost says its personally devastating and takes a little while to recover.
Still, I'd like to see Kerry remain an extremely influential senator, particularly on homeland security and foreign policy and defense, which are his strengths. I also think he'd make a fantastic Secretary of State in a future Democratic administration.

Adlai Stevenson, too. Highly respected, later served as JFK's UN ambassador even after losing TWO elections in landslides.

I hate the f*cked up media. Everything has to be labeled and simplified...usually to the liberal guy's disadvantage.
