My child is being required to read books subversive to
Christianity this semester. She is an honors student in High School and has brought home the third book in a row that bashes Christians two that go after preachers in particular.

The Crucible, Huckleberry Fin and the Scarlet Letter.

I hope Bush does something about this quick.

5. I hope "1984" is also on that reading list.
Then again, we don't have to read that one when we're practically living it.

6. The truth is if more people would read these books
people would understand how dangerous too great a link between the church and the state is. My daughter is reading them because she is in the International Baccalaureate program, the students in the regular classes don't have nearly as rigorous a reading schedule.

12. Tongue in cheek post all the way around?
I may be in such a foul mood about Bush and Christians that I am not understanding you. Please tell me you agree that these are good books for every person to read. My head will explode if anyone on this board believes in banning books.

10. My aunt was a fundie high school teacher -- she had a fit about
the Scarlet Letter -- one of her students friends was assigned to read the SL in a public school and showed up with this so very awful book.

My aunt had a fit -- she went on about this porn that had been brought to her school -- at every family gathering for years.

Later in high school I was assigned the book to read -- It is a wonderful book -- as are the others your daughter was assigned to read.

The problem is that their idea of morals and values are completely different from liberal/progressive values.

Yet these same people don't see anything wrong in bush stealing the election in 2000 and 2004 -- the ends justify the means.
