No Senate democrat should be minority leader, from a red state. |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-10-04 04:49 AM by Zinfandel
We had to live with the spinelessness of Tom Daschle being "forced" to kiss republican ass and NOT speak out for us...Yet they went after him anyway (South Dakota)...slimy cuzz that the republicans are.
We can't afford to have another democrat as minority leader from a red state, No fucking way.
Barbara Boxer from CA would NOT have the same concerns about her job being in jeopardy.
Yeah, they will try to come after Boxer, years from now, but she WILL prevail...(If she even chooses to run again).
We really can't allow a Senator from a red state to be our Senate minority leader because they will be targeted and they better play ball with Rove's agenda...If the dems allow a senator, whom ever to be nominated from a red state...there should be a huge outcry, because the obvious Daschle spinelessness we saw so clearly, will again become our nightmare.

But my favorite senator is from a Red State... Byron Dorgan. He LOOKS like a substitute math teacher, but DAMN that man has a brain and can articulate his beliefs!
He would've made one hell of a leader.

3. Well Rove and the republicans are pushing hard behind the scenes to |
|
have a Senator as minority "Leader" from a red state. (I can't recall whom right now, it's late and I'm full of Zinfandel).
But they are pushing and forcing the issue for obvious reasons. To control.
We just can't let that happen...for the same obvious reasons.

Weirdest sentence structure. |
|
Sorry, but should we nominate a Republican for the job? Since you don't want a Democrat.
We don't want our party leader in either house of Congress to be from a state with a Republican majority? Welllllllllllll, that sounds fine. Until you think about the job he has to do. And that job requires understanding the difficulties of being from such states, and knowing how to persuade those embattled Senators and Representatives to vote the party line.

senator from a STRONG (what is left) of a strong a Democratic state, CA, as opposed to someone from a state that's red and perhaps will keep their mouth's shut when told to, from a weak democratic state (red state)?
Seems obvious to me!
Nancy Pelosi---Barbara Boxer, both from CA...A blue state????

9. Reid just won; safe for six years and might not even run again |
|
He is fairly old, having run for senate as early as 1974.
It's obviously very early to look toward 2010. I supposed current Nevada governor Kenny Guinn could challenge Reid then. Maybe congressman Jim Gibbons, if he either loses the 2006 governors race or decides not to run for re-election as governor in 2010.
Daschle had to lead the last two years knowing Thune was out there and likely to run again. Reid has no similar short term threat or concerns.

15. Harry Reid has skills. He can most effectively block the Republican agenda |
|
We need a workhorse who has proven to be effective in the chamber in there right now to block the worst of the worst, not a showhorse. The showhorses will get their TV face time and do a fine job of articulating our opposition to the Republican aganda on TV regardless of who is Majority Leader. Here's a couple examples of Reid's skills. Examples that also showcase his working relationship with moderate Republicans who we will need help from in the next 2 years. http://www.motherjones.com/news/blog/2004/11/MB_2004_44.html#41 http://www.now.org/issues/legislat/11-11-98.html#winhttp://www.wilderness.org/NewsRoom/Release/20040915b.cfm

16. What about Robert Byrd of WV? |
|
He is vastly experienced, isn't afraid of Rove, and isn't worried about re-election. He was also a voice crying in the wilderness against the Iraq war right from the start.
