I have not heard anything. Will he see the trial out? Remember voters do not require proof beyond a reasonable doubt to make their choice. I would love to see Janklow forced to stand before the voters to face the consequences for what he did, rather than have him replaced by some Bushbot tool who would likely win comfortably. Is Karl Rove going to stick his fingers where they don't belong again?

so if he runs again against Stephanie Herseth, it's safe to say she's in.
(btw, in this looks obsessed society, how did someone as attractive as Herseth lose to someone as ugly as Janklow?)
Now this benefits the Dems. We either pick up his seat, or he resigns or doesn't run for relection. This means that Thune might decide to retake his old House seat which is far easier than beating Daschle. Then Daschle should coast to reelection easily like he has in the past.

3. The GOP screwed up big time |

remember last year when the media was reporting Rove's "secret" plans to undermine Daschle in South Dakota. They had such a crafty plan and got it all mucked with such a little thing like manslaughter.

4. Janklow will run, then slip on the soap |

Gee, they jail murderers, don't they?
Oh wait, that's a republican.
Guess that the victim's family will forgive him and he will go on his merry way.

I don't know how easy running for congress from a jail cell is. Traficant's campaign surely wasn't very successful. I doubt that he would run. He knows it is over and will probably resign once the trial really gets started. I heard that ex-senator Larry Pressler, who lost to Janklow in the primary last year, might run. I know he lost to Tim Johnson in 1996 so hopefully he would be a bad candidate against Herseth.
