Congressional Hearings on the Blackout - C-Span
Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 09:37 AM by seemslikeadream
just getting started, if anyone is interested.

They're having audio difficulties and will be returning shortly. Rerunning Grassley now.

Change made in thread title to clarify

1. Appropriately their sound system doesn't work either.
Can anyone trust any energy hearing chaired by Tauzin?

4. As soon as a the chair said
he did not want partisanship or blame-placing because it would not benefit America. AS SOON AS I HEAR A REPUBLICAN SAYING THAT, I KNOW CORPORATIONS ARE BEHIND THE PROBLEMS AND THE REPUBLICANS HELPED.

Now another Republican (Cox from California) saying the people suing for damages caused by the blackout are profeteers... boy, what about the monopolists that have this nation's energy grids in their pockets? I think what they want is for the public to pay for updating the infrastructure... I thought THEY own it, they should have maintained it.

9. I guess there's a difference between what
he thinks is important and what Markey and other Dems want to know, how much more does the consumer have to pay, want to be assured it won't happen again, we need relibility as soon as possible.

16. actually the blackout caused many refineries to shut down for days
A hiccup in supply like that will cause a price hike.

BTW, Did you know that the oil companies in Ohio were artificially creating "shortages" by shifting gasoline supplies to Canada during the gas price run up of 2000?

10. The democratic representative from California
pinned Abraham about manipulation by Enron. (California was screwed -- her literal words).
His answer: it was not this administration that didn't do anything. It was another administration.
The California rep said something like "dellusion" because she did not have additional time.
The republican California representative contradicted her immediately: hearings had taken place, thank you Mr. Abraham... puke!

12. Norwood from Georgia says "we should not use the blackout to
push agendas that have already been put aside (I think he is referring to elimination of PUKA (sp) or federal oversight. According to him this blackout was predicted when Bush came to power... I wonder how they knew? They needed more deregulation and less supervision? 11-12% return for transmission line investment is not enough of a return? (this question was never answered by any repuke)
We need to get them out of positions of power. America is not their concern. Deregulation (read robbery) is the only priority.

13. Too bad the reps are such wimps.. Ole Spence actually said "Harken"
Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 12:40 PM by SoCalDem
and no one JUMPED ON IT WITH BOTH FEET..

Of course he said it in passing.. "....harken back to ......", but someone should have said.. "Mr A.. funny that you would mention "Harken", since that was just another in a long line of "energy scams that this admin is associated with "...

The repubes never hesitated to bring whitewater or any other bogus "scandal" that they could into everyday language for NINE years, and they are still doing it..

Our guys are minnows , swimming in a shark tank :(.. I am disappointed beyond words..

That little twit sitting beside Spence, was the subject of a minor investigation regarding his emails during the "energy meetings".. Kyle Mc Slarrow... A while back, when he was on cspan, I called and asked him about his e-mails and whether he had deleted or shredded them.. His eyes got as big as saucers..:)

He's dirty .. Ole Spence is just dumb as a bag of two-headed hammers
