What Democrats can learn from 2004 |
|
I wouldn't be surprised if those voting machines were manipulated and gave Bush extra votes he did not deserve. However, in the future the Democrats need to run a national election. We can't be afraid to campaign in states like Texas and Mississippi. In every southern state except Texas and Alabama, 4/10 voters choose John Kerry. In Texas, 2.8 million people went and voted for Kerry even though these people knew he had no chance of winning their state. I would have been very proud if Kerry received 46% of the vote in Texas.
Perhaps if you look at other factors (assuming no voter fraud) it is not surprising Bush eked out a win against Kerry. Statistically the economy is doing well, and you had that video that reminded the voters about Bin Laden and 9/11 right before the election.
John Kerry would have made an excellent president, but he failed to convey what he would do if elected, in a manner that was convincing, and motivating.
A few weeks before the election, I convinced a 2000 Bush voter to support Kerry. She really didn't want to vote for Bush, but she didn't know what Kerry would do as President.
In the future if we run a national election, and run an idea based campaign we will be successful.

2. He should have went to Texas a few times. |
|
Texans are Americans to. He might not have won their electoral votes. He would have received more than the 2.8 million votes. The Bush campaign was organized in every county in the nation. This is why he got 40% of the vote in New York and did better in other Blue states, and won the popular vote.

3. the campaign didn't matter, and won't |
|
because those machines and the harassment techniques of the right aren't being countered.
stop them from suppressing the vote, and rethugs will lose.
