Wednesday, November 10, 2004

California Attorney General Bill Lockyer announced Wednesday a $2.6 million settlement with Diebold Inc., resolving a lawsuit alleging that the company sold the state and several counties shoddy voting equipment.

(snip)

The original lawsuit was filed a year ago by Seattle-based electronic voting critic Bev Harris and Sacramento-based activist Jim March, who characterized the $2.6 million settlement as "peanuts."

March, a whistle blower who filed suit on behalf of California taxpayers, could receive as much as $75,000 because of the settlement.

EDIT: Apparently, she refused the settlement.

And she used to sell Clinton-parody cigars?

So what's up with the cigars?

Does ole Bart have an axe to grind with Bev?

4. Let's also credit Jim March here.
I talked to him yesterday and he said no way was he going to settle for what the AG and Diebold worked out. It was a slap on the wrist to Diebold and would do nothing to expose the real problems.

California's AG needs a new job because he's not doing a very good one for the citizens of California.

Bev and Jim doing the job a good AG should be doing.

Go guys!

8. Is March still insulting people like me?
You know, "leftwing commies" (of course, I'm not a Communist) or whatever it was he said? That really hurt me, after Diebold threatened to sue me for mirroring files March had placed online.

Glad to hear they declined the money, it should ease some suspicions about all this.

5. Bev accused Bart of wanting to file a qui tam....
...and listed all sorts of reasons why a qui tam would be bad and she would *never* file a qui tam, right before she filed a qui tam herself.
