CNN & other networks never mention that Rather had the facts re Bush
and his phony National Guard Service, even if the document was a fake! Remember the interview in the same 60 Minutes show with this woman Marian Carr Knox? She was the secretary of Bush's commanding officer, Killian and she said that though the document was a fake, the facts were all true!....Since this whole hullaballoo started, I have never heard any of the networks bring up this fact....They all dismiss the story as false because the document was in question....Sickening!!!
Here's her picture...remember her?

2. Exactly as Rove planned.
You produce bogus documents that contain 100% true and correct facts, pass them off to a mainstream media outlet, convince them to run with the story, then BLAMMO some bloggers from out of nowhere become instant experts on fonts & kerning & 1970s-era typewriters to destroy the authenticity of the *documents* - not the facts within. But in doing so, the facts then become tainted in the eyes of the viewing public and won't be brought up again. Worked perfectly.

5. real or bogus?
Actually an expert on documents did examinie them in great detail. He said that they were definitely typed (not printed) by a typewriter of the right vintage, and that they could not have been created with Word. In addition, shortly after they were "discredited" the white house released more papers that had proportional type. Whether the papers were real or not, it has rove's slimy hands all over it.

16. The old "inoculation" process of social persuasion.
Rove is a fucking evil master of impression management. Someone should teach that piece of shit a lesson in honesty.

4. What a great point. The Administration wants to try and talk morality?
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 04:23 PM by shance
Its both outrageous and sad that good moral people telling the truth are being ignored by a dishonest, deceitful media and Administration.

Not good for the country's moral character and integrity overall.

By the way, what are these moral hypocrites teaching the children?

8. This was calculated to bring Rather down.
I don't think we will hear the last of him. His network bosses may have shut him up on their channel, but they won't be able to shut him up altogether. Dan is first and foremost a journalist and he's not ready to be put out to pasture yet.

12. Right now on Crossfire....they are again knocking Rather because of the
documents....Why doesn't Brazile or Bob Garfield of NPR say something about the secretary and try to get Rather off the hook?....It baffles me....

Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 05:25 PM by Redleg
They need to read up on it and then hammer tha Rethugs. Donna Brazile has never impressed me on Crossfire or any where she has to compete against the blustery bullshit of the right.

18. I agree about Brazile ..... she's not the only inefffective Democratic
spokesperson they use against the right-wing bullshitters....I find the same with Mark Shields and others whose names I can't recall at the moment...It seems as if CNN (and others) purposefully use Democrats who are bland and allow themselves to be out-maneuvered by the right....

11. that's because
it's a "he-said, she-said" sort of thing. G*B could be lying, but so could seh, or there could be imperfect memories. I'm not saying she wasn't correct, but the memories of this elderly lady concerning events of 40 years ago is evidence of the very flimsiest nature. CNN and the other networks wouoldn't want to go too far out on a limb with this one, after seeing the damage tha CBS did to its credibility.

Again, I'm not saying she was wrong, so hold the damn flames. I'm just saying it PROVES nothing, and once the documents turned out to be fake, well then a much higher standard of proof was demanded by the TV watching public.

14. And don't forget Ben Barnes.
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 05:01 PM by skypilot
Remember him? He was the person originally interview on "60 Minutes". He confessed to pulling strings to get Bush Jr. into the Texas Air National Guard. His name dropped out of sight as soon as the "forged documents" controversy started. I'm surprised that his name hasn't been mentioned on this thread so far.

Here is his picture:

15. Why was the lead story changed?
Something no one seems to mention. The original story to be aired that night was the Niger document story. According to Rather and others approximately two hours before broadcast the lead story was changed to the * NG "fake" documents. Approximately two hours after the NG document story aired a lone blogger appeared to debunk the NG document story. With no additional sources or confirmation all of the MSM aired the "proof" that the documents, and ergo their contents, were fake. This is the same MSM that will not report anything negative about the current administration without multiple sources, video, DNA etc. You will also notice the MSM won't report anything negative about this administration even with absolute proof and multiple sources. This is propaganda at it's best. 1984 is already here. For all of the people who still think reason and talking will work; I feel sorry for you. We're way past that. I'm not talking violence. I'm talking resistance. Going along to get along puts you in the same boat as the 1930 Germans: sure our neighbors disappeared in the night. But that doesn't mean anything sinister is going on. Dan Rather was set up.
