Let's set the record straight: Tom Hanks & Julia Roberts are democrats
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 05:03 PM by Melodybe
Damn I know this is a stupid thread but people here calling folks repugs and then blasting them just because they are mainstream and rich is lame, especially since they don't know what they are talking about.

Tom Hanks was on Letterman last week complaining about the election, he was at the premiere of f9/11 and has been a democrat all his life.

Julia Roberts generally keeps her politics to herself but is a democrat. I have heard her blast repugs a few times.

My favorite, when asked if she was a republican Julia responded with "why would anyone want to be the member of a party that falls between reptile and repugnant in the dictionary?" I saw her say this on Entertainment tonight in early 2003.

In fact it is easier to name the repugs in Hollywood b/c their are so few of them:

Robert Duvall
Patricia Headon
Britney Spears
Arnold
That other asshole that was at the RNC
Chuck Norris

Damn their are a few more but that is all I can think of at the moment.

Seriously you could count on one hand the number of big name repugs in Hollywood. Most Hollywood repugs are either has beens or talentless idiots.

Literally every big star is a democrat, all the big directors are democrats, with the exception of country music the majority of musicians are democrats.

So yes Hollywood is self centered and EVERYTHING they do is for themselves and their careers. If you want to blast them, blast them for not taking a risk and calling out Bushco every time the accept an award. But don't blast them for being republicans cause they're not, have you ever meet any theatre people, seriously they are the most liberal people alive. That is the reason that the right wing hates Hollywood, it is literally the one area of the mass media that they have absolutely no power in.

So even thought this is a stupid waste of time thread, I'm sick of seeing people busting on folks that I like with nothing but ignorant lies.

We have better and more important things to talk about.

1. Does anyone know anything about

Jessica Simpson. I have seen some people call her a republican, but didn't know if this was true or just speculation because she is dumb.

8. She's a repub!
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Republican_celebrities For a huge list of famous repubs.

Plus if I remember correctly she sung at Bush*s first inauguration. Bush* is a huge fan of hers.

11. YUP
I hate Jessica Simpson. Every song I've heard by her is like nails on a chalkboard. Over-the-top, show-offy, scream-singing shit! Damn Repub bitch gives me a headache!!!

her younger sister Ashlee (the one that got busted on SNL lip-singing) was a Kerry-supporter though. She may not have a whole lot of talent, but at least she isn't a Bush-supporter like her braindead sister!

2. I try to look past a stars political affiliations
it really doesn't matter that much. How someone believes doesn't matter that much to me. Especially since the chances are slim that I will ever come into contact with them.

6. Other repugs
Mel Gibson. I can't watch his movies anymore. Maybe he's not a Republican because he's not from the USA, but he's bad news. Against stem cell research.

Patricia Heaton? Damn. I've always thought she was charming.

9. When I say big name,I mean stars that actually have some pull in Hollywood
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 05:19 PM by Melodybe
Bruce Willis, Clint Eastwood, and Arnold are the few that I can say actually have some power.

Both Eastwood and Willis have distanced themselves from Bush. Eastwood in particular, he deeply cares about the environment and refuses to even talk about Bush.

Willis was very supportive of Bush right after the war, but has since also distanced himself.

Gibson is crazy, and everyone in Hollywood knows it. Mel is slipping farther away from reality with every passing day.

Britney's time is almost up ever since she was made fun of in F9/11 and after she married that red neck guy. Same for Jessica Simpson, Bush love does not get you far.

I can't even begin to list the democrats there are so many of them.

This is a stupid thread and I apologize for starting it but come on, the repugs have no play in Hollywood, they just don't.

7. Some stars really do a lot of charity work
Check out www.refugeesinternational.org, and you'll see what Sam Waterston does for that organization. And that's just the start for Mr. W. He actively supports City Meals on Wheels, and has done hosting on the PBS show "The Visionaries" gratis for years. It seems that there isn't a month that passes without hearing Sam is helping some charity somewhere, either by doing a dramatic reading (which he did this week in a CT high school) or doing a PSA. He is also a Democrat.

Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 05:20 PM by Laelth
Yep. They're both definitely Dems.

Tom Hanks, political contributions.

Julia Roberts, campaign contributions (harder to tell with her--just one donation)

Knowledge is power.

12. It's simple to differentiate.
Remember when the NRA put out a list of bad actors. And all those actors came forward saying, "put me on the list."

Now that's sticking your neck out.

Speaking of tom hanks, he was on some interview or another, and he really feels that, for himself, as an actor, he doesn't think he should influence anyone because, as he puts it, he just pretends on film, and doesn't feel qualified... or as qualified as someone who actually lives and breathes political service. It was a noble approach to it. Granted, I look a freakin jerry seinfeld on the american express commercials, and want to strangle him.
