One of the things I like about listening to NPR is the oppertunity listen to other peoples thoughts. I'm talking about those short, 3 minute monologues, that you here inbetween segemnts on occassion. Some piss me off. Others make me laugh. Occassionally I find the one that actually makes me think, or even makes me just a little less scared.
An Irishman proudly proclaiming himself a "Tourist Against Terrorism" not long after 9/11. A young black woman speaking out against the blind patriotism that has been sweaping the US in the recent years. A woman, a self proclaimed "hater of humanity", finding a little bit of hope for humanity in a Pennesylvania "Faerie Festival".
I finally went looking, and yes, there is an audio archive for them on the NPR website. I found the "hater of humanity", and the young black woman who refuses to wave ehr flag in the "waiting room of reperations". I'm still trying to find the founder of "Tourists Against Terrorism" and the young Airforce officer defending his anti-War friend. That's ok though. I know they are there someplace. I don't mind looking. Besides, I'm finding more things to piss me off, make me laugh, and yes...even make me think. I'm just happy I'm still not afraid of any of those three things.
