One last point to the Lieberman apologists
well two actually. These are two that I haven't seen anyone even try to rebuke yet.

1-His hypocrisy. Lieberman whines about kids seeing a graphic's pixilated arms blown off, but has no problem blowing off the arms of actual kids. Lieberman whines about simulated violence but then goes off an endorses actual violence. At least be consistent Holy Joe. I think bombing the hell out of a country where about half the population is under 18 is going to hurt a lot more kids than any video games.

2-He support Ashcroft's TIPS program. Many prominent Democrats spoke out against it, including Leahy and Dodd. Even some Republicans opposed it. One was Dick Armey. Dick Armey ended it by sneaking an amendment into another bill that ended TIPS. To my knowledge Bob Barr also opposed it. This means that Lieberman has supported more of Ashcroft's Nazi agenda than Dick Armey and Bob Barr. What does that say?

1. Haven't seen many Lieberman apologists on this board
Thank God for that!

Holy Joe is the worst Dem there is! Zev Miller at least isn't so snactimonious. Dump Joe in 2006--I'll move back to CT to get rid of this fool!

8. Zell is in rightwing leaning Georgia. Holy Joe is left leaning Connecticut
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 01:16 PM by billbuckhead
If a Republican was elected from Connecticut he might be more left leaning than Lieberman such as Lincoln Chafee or Jumpin Jim Jeffords. Remember Connecticut produced Republicans like Lowell Weicker. So when people point to Joe's voting record, I'm not impressed. I haven't been impressed since he threw the Vice-Presidential debate with Cheney. It was pathetic, it was as if Lieberman was asking Mr Halliburton for a job.

we can elect someone way more liberal than Lieberman in Connecticut. John Edwards and Mary Landrieu are more liberal than him and got elected in way more right wing states. Hell, the 2 Dem senators from ultra-conservative North Dakota are more or at least as liberal as Lieberman.

13. While you may be slightly right on the first choice (Edwards)...
I'd have to disagree with you on Landrieu. She and her fellow LA Senator John Breaux are just about the most conservative two Democrats in the Senate, with the exception of Zig Zag Zell. Lieberman is less conservative than Landrieu based on environmental concerns alone. But I'd have to put him at a solid #4 as far as conservatism among Democrats, in the same league as Landrieu and Breaux.

(Zell Miller isn't in a league, he's in outer space)

15. Lieberman has a lifetime ACU rating of 20
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 01:34 PM by ButterflyBlood
Landrieu has a 17

and what about Ben Nelson? He's more conservative than Breaux, at least Breaux opposed the latest tax cut and opposed a few of Bush's right wing judges. He also has an ACU rating above 50, while Breaux has a 44

17. I don't give a flying f*** at a rolling donut what the ACU ratings are!
In the case of Nelson, you have a point. I had forgotten about him. But with regards to Landrieu and Breaux, Lieberman beats them based on environmental issues alone. Both of LA's Senators are shills for the oil industry.

Your bringing up ACU ratings is no different than Lieberman's defenders consistently throwing up a stream of meaningless, highly subjective percentages and statistics.

3. <<<<YAWN>>>> Not this argument again, sure I'll help get Bush elected!!!!

NOT!!!!!!!

Lieberman will not be appointing the likes of Ashcroft, Wolfowitz, Perle, Rice, Cheney, Rumseld, geez, how long can this list go - you know the idiots! But they won't be in the Lieberman cabinet.

And Lieberman will NOT nominate judges like Estrada, Pickering, Kuhl, Pryor, Owens and other right-wing ideologues. In fact Lieberman has supported every democratic filibuster on the SEnate floor.

And finally Joe will protect a woman's right to choose and help save our environment from Corporate polluters. He gets high ratings from all womans & environmental groups

I'll vote with a smile for Lieberman SHOULD he get the nomination. And until the nomination is decided I'll work my ass off to ensure that someone OTHER than Lieberman gets the nomination because lets face it, I'm not a Lieberman fan but I like him about 100xInfinity better than Bush.

Guess what, I'm not an apologist for the guy, just someone who realizes that you have absolutely nothing to tell me that could convince me that voting for anyone other than the democratic nominee, WHICHEVER ONE gets it, is better than Bush.

This is nothing more than another attempt to start fighting the the General Discussion

11. The best post about this subject
He's never going to get nominated so why do we have these threads in the first place. No one is apologizing for Lieberman, but god forbid he gets the nomination then we're going to vote for him.

14. god forbid that
my left pinky gets the nomination, then we'll have to vote for it:) I would be willing to bet my life's savings (with that and a couple of bucks you can get a coffee at starbucks) that Lieberman won't be nominated. It really, really is a moot point, it will NEVER, EVER happen. Ever. I don't even think that people should bring it up as a possibility. I think that it should be considered as mythical as Santa Claus or the Easter bunny. Lieberman won't get nominated, period:)

18. Lynne, I love you....but I'm not there with you on Joe
Are we supposed to sit here and not do anything when people who defend Lieberman here keep on calling us anti-Jewish for making the slightest comment? Some of us are so fucking sick of that accusation from two specific DUers that it's hard to sit back and be silent anymore.
