Kerry says: "Dean, Dean, Dean, Dean, Dean" off mike. |
|
Check it out, live on audio. ""After speaking with reporters Sen. John Kerry was apparently upset at the amount of attention Gov. Dean is getting - even in the forms of questions at his press conference. Kerry is seen leaving the scene and mutters "Dean, Dean, Dean," under his breath. A mic, still pinned to his clothes, picks it up loud and clear. Check out the clip for yourself: http://dean2004.blogspot.com/2003_09_07_dean2004_archive.html#106316381193482498

The corporate media has apparently decided that Dean will be their candidate. IMO, Dean is the right-wingers' choice of entertainment: they wants a "scary" controversial insurgent who'll make a lot of noise only to get slaughtered by BushCo in the general.
It has become all to clear that the corporate media fears and ignores candidates like Kerry, Edwards and Graham because they are electable.

McGovern was very liberal. Dean only pretends to be .. but the outcome will be the same. Continue to live in fantasy land, if you wish. America will never vote for someone like Dean. The exact same reasons the idealists are nutty about him is the exact same reason that he is unelectable.
But you're correct: the comparison of Howard Dean to George McGovern may be unfair. McGovern is a very likeable, principled human being.

78. Listen, you, I'm just damned glad SOMEBODY wants to be from there! |
|
I for one am sick, to death by now, of the pols who (like Lieberman) think survival for the Dems is to slant more to the center-right. UH, EXCUSE ME! That's republican turf. It's VERY well covered and EXCRUCIATINGLY well-served. OKAY? ENOUGH!!!!!!
I am SICK TO DEATH of seeing myself and my fellow liberals/progressives, and even moderates, dismissed, scorned, and shunted off by this runaway train toward the right wing. FUCK THAT! Those are the bedrock fundamental roots of the Democratic Party and the Democratic Movement!!
Better face it. Paul Wellstone is dead. And I am one of the many who still grieve. It is a HUGE loss. But because he's gone, does that mean his convictions (which many of us share) died with him? Did his mantle go to the grave with him? Are we not supposed to invoke thoughts or slogans like his anymore? Are we not supposed to still believe that, while Wellstone is dead, his views are also just as dead?
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I, for one, am DAMNED GLAD somebody like Howard Dean is coming out, grabbing the microphone and the attention and the headlines and the center stage, and invoking the ideas of Paul Wellstone. Precious few others have had the guts to step up and sound off like that.
Because I DO NOT WANT PAUL WELLSTONE'S IDEAS AND PHILOSOPHICAL STATEMENTS TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT SOMEBODY TO PICK UP ON THEM AND REPEAT THEM AND RUN WITH THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'M DAMNED GLAD WELLSTONE'S LINE HAS NOT ONLY BEEN ADOPTED, BUT BEING CARRIED LIKE A FOOTBALL!
FACE IT! (AND YES, I'M SHOUTING!) I'm SICK OF THIS! I'M GLAD THAT, IF PAUL WELLSTONE ISN'T AROUND ANYMORE TO SAY OR FOLLOW THROUGH ON THESE THINGS, AT LEAST SOMEBODY ELSE IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just admit it. The Ralph Nader of upper middle class white socially liberal, economic conservatives. If Dean wins the primary, he'll lose big unless he has Clark to save him.
Why not just pick Clark and a good liberal to run with him? Why waste our time on yet another DINO like Dean, especially one that can't be elected?
Kucinich could get more votes in the general than Dean would, at least he offers an alternative to the GOP on economics. Kucinich's economics is supported by the *majority* of Americans.

|
Dean has been a kick in the pants to Democrats who would not fight Bush when we were begging them to these past couple of years. All they had to do is be tough, and stand firm for what was right. I have this feeling that most politicians who've been in D.C. long enough are seriously out of touch with the people. They really need to work on getting back to the grassroots like Dean is doing. Granted, he was a Governor, and thus closer to 'the people', but he has been willing to go to the people over the big corporations and special interests for help in his campaign.

during a campaign.
The press gave Kerry an opportunity to differentiate himself from Dean. He chose to non-answer.
I think Dean has already taken the first step toward winning, at least where Kerry is concerned. He's gotten under his skin.

70. No applause. Just confusion. |

If a candidate wants my vote, he should be able to articulate why he/she is the class of the field. Kerry was given that opportunity. He chose not to take it.
It just seems odd to me that a candidate can say "Vote for me." yet be unable/unwilling to answer the question "Why?".
That goes for any of the candidates who duck that question and call it "taking the high road".

77. Let's see--If Kerry rose to the bait and started to bash Dean and say |
|
why Howard's positions were wrong on specific issues, then this board would be lit up like an dry Xmas tree that just fell into a menora. If he passes the opportunity he is a spineless, dirty dog, whimp. Boy, am I glad that no one in America is watching this stuff anyway!! America's answer to Howard Dean is WHO???--just like the rest of our guys. Iowa and NH will be getting swamped with ads starting about January from the major contenders and that's what's going to start the primary ball rolling. I've watched races in here in Maine that were totally lopsided and then after the ad blitz a few weeks before, turned into toe to toe races. There's a lot of meat left on the bone before we can definitley say that it's one dog's bone....and we haven't seen all the dogs in the pound yet.

I always thought that candidates were supposed to discuss their competitors' positions in a campaign. It's supposed to be "Vote for me." not "Vote for us.", right?
I'm concerned about any opportunity that any candidate passes up to get my vote. I'm not willing to give Bush free shots to poison the electorate until January when the major contenders feel like "starting the ball rolling".
While I agree with you that there's still "a lot of meat on the bone" in the campaign. I think there needs to be a candidate or candidates willing to at least make a claim on it. Right now it seems like all the candidates say they can do a better job than Bush but no one at present wants the job.
On Edit: If Kerry is concerned about having to ask questions about why Dean is currently kicking his teeth in, maybe he should try to reverse the trend.
Edit 2: How about the other point I brouht up? Has Dean already beaten Kerry because he's gotten under Kerry's skin?
