I've flown a couple of times since Christmas and noticed a remarkable decrease in airport searches. Before that I had posted on DU that I had been searched 6 out of 7 times. Then shortly after, they reported that there would be different methods used to searches and I haven't been bothered since. But I suspected that the laxness was only going to be short-lived.

5. This "new threat" is something that they admit to have known about for |
|
at least two months. Seems they are bringing out the horse and pony show to distract from all the bad publicity lately. They have so over used the "alert systems", that if something were actually to be reported BEFORE it happened we wouldn't believe it.
blivet** has cried wolf one (or more actually) too many times and now the people of the village don't believe him anymore.
By "making us more safe" he has again, made us less safe and managed to totally desensitize us all in the process.

Did you see KO last night? Three different parts of the administration came out with three different variations on this theme. KO said the news was "a week old", the NY Times this morning said it had "been around for months". Obviously, they were saving it up.
Just how much longer is this crying of wolf going to work? When I hear of another "terror alert", it never even occurs to me any more that there might be an increased risk of an attack.

It might be real, and it might be pure bunkum. Sadly, these fools are managing to destroy any faith the public might eventually develop in a warning system by blatantly misusing it the way they are.

the war in Iraq, the fact that my SS plan is going down in flames, the case against Rumsfeld (add yours here...)
Everytime we hear about one of these, they're looking to distract attention from something else. The only question is WHICH something else is it this time?

Seriously, I am immune to these threats now. If I am going to die, then I will die, but I will NOT live my life in fear, and I will NOT condone horrible things done in the name of my safety to other human beings.

Just a simple look at the W budget confirms that the administration doesn't take the "threat" seriously - cutting money for first-responders, law enforcement... Goss might step out and say one thing, but W's budget appropriations say what they are really thinking. It's just a ploy to get the sheeple to stampede in a different direction.

Of course someone is planning something. Issuing "boo threats" are meant to keep people scared and distract from other bs. If those who are supposed to be keeping us safe (ha!) were (again ha!), they wouldn't have to issue boo threats. If they weren't keeping us safe, they wouldn't have to issue boo threats either. It is just propaganda bs and of course someone is planning something. Something will happen again because we are part of the world and the USAnian government has an immensly unpopular way of being the the world.

Everyday, in every way, something is a credible but aspecific threat. There's a threat that everyone of us could get hit by another vehicle, everytime we're in the car. What good does it do to warn others of this credible, but not specific threat?
Of course, there are people plotting nasty things. But, if it's not specific, it means we are powerless(!) to prevent it. So, the gov't is basically admitting we should throw up our hands and just accept the consequences. What good is that? The Professor

production, via their basement studio... does no one wonder these tapes are pulled out of Rove's ass as needed? I think we should worry about this bunch attacking us again just to stop the critical mass of the news finally getting out... is that paranoid?
