If she would have excepted the house that Maggie bought her, it would have affected her Gov. Welfare. That's the tragedy of the welfare system. When I lived in Southeast Oklahoma for a short period of time, I met a lot of women/single mothers who were 100 percent dependent on welfare.

It was a Catch 22 from hell for these women. The whole area was depressed economically and the only type of work in the area was minimum wage. The minute they would start to work no matter what their wages were, Medicaid, food stamps, and other welfare assistance was cut dramatically. The poor women may have been uneducated but they knew how to use a calculator. It simply made financial sense to stay on welfare and not get a job.

So...when Maggie's mom bitched about the house Maggie bought her, I could kind of see her point. (Don't get me wrong) the mom was an uncaring snake.
