I've decided to go along with the republicans on how to support our troops, since so many people keep saying the Democrats aren't. Hey, I'm just that kind of follower. So, without further ado, here are the ways I'm going to support our troops!
1) Cut veterans' benefits to help pay for enormous wartime tax breaks for the smallest minority of Americans (the rich), most of whom never were and never will be our troops. I list this one first, because it seems the most logical.
2) Threaten and bully everyone who questions any actions of the current administration, as they are obviously trying to hurt our troops. After all, the troops are trying very hard to believe what they are being told despite the evidence, and they don't need anyone adding to the confusion with more distracting facts.
3) Send the smallest number of troops possible, poorly equip them, and keep them on duty at least four times as long as they should be. Our troops can't stand feeling that their task isn't extremely hard and nearly interminable, and their feelings is what this is all about.
4) Buy every nationalist fad bit of paraphernalia available, from flag stickers with "9/11" on them to red, white and blue bracelets. Nothing helps support our troops more than making novelty entrepreneurs rich.
5) Bury all the troops they send home dead secretly, with no media coverage or Presidential audience. After all, their family will still get their flag, and that's one less veteran we have to hear crying about not getting health care.
I'm sure there are more. Please feel free to add any I haven't listed yet.

1. Trivialize their deaths |
|
-by comparing 1500 dead out of 150,000, to the number of all Americans killed each year out of the entire 36+ million population of California, which is the same geographical size as Iraq.
-by remarks such as "soldiers die, suck it up".
Blame the troops for dying; blame the troops for not dying; blame the troops for "whining" over such things as not having enough rifles and bullets; blame the troops for not being hurt badly enough to deserve Purple Hearts. After all, "they knew what they were signing up for".
And never ever respond to any mention of the fact that our soldiers are now conscripted, not volunteer.

2. But they get better raises under Republicans!! |
|
Or so a few soldiers told my husband (also a soldier) the other day as to why they voted for Bush. My husband's platoon is 9/10 anti-Bush and only 1/10 "Bush is ok" and this tends to be how most of the soldiers he knows feel. The last week or so he has been out working with a bunch he's never met before. He brought up Bush, of course because he loooves to bash him, and this was the Bush voters reply -- "we got a better raise under Bush than under Clinton." True? I'm not sure, my husband claims it was only better by 0.01%

7. Truth? Reality? Facts? |

Huh? What are those? Everything with them is faith-based, no need for any of those three!

I'm sure the amount offset the fact that they are now on active duty with no real hope of going home any time soon as opposed to guarding taverns in Germany, say.

That's what I want to ask all the 'ulgy car magnet' people, just how does that support a troop.
Can we start a magnet movement where we send all the car magnets over to Iraq so the soldiers can stick them on their humvees? I assume the humvees are metal, if we could go around and steal all the car magnets, we could get them a little more armor that way, it might be better than nothing.

6. Maybe they could be used... |

...as the armor plating many of our well-supported troops never got.

Here's another idea.
Let's charge $100 for the magnets with $2.99 actually going to pay for the magnets and the rest actually getting donated to the troops. I'd be interested to see how many of these fake patriots buy them and paste them all over their vehicles then.

12. Well the poor ones wouldn't, but I would hope the rest would. |
|
I would, if I had the money.
I buy the magnets to remind people that there's a war going on. I'm shocked at how many seem not to notice or care.

9. Hey, I have those magnets. |

But I support the troops in more important ways, like fighting against a president that wants to send them in harm's way for no good reason. And fighting against (republican) lawmakers who think it's good to cut their combat pay and stop telling them they're eligible for benefits.
Compassionate conservative must be doublespeak for heartless, lying jerk.
