Report on John Snow's SS spiel....one of the 60 city tours .
The first ten minutes was dedicated to praising American business..."the most important calling America has" and "the highest level of achievement". Also US is rated the highest in our largest sector, retailing...."unparalelled anywhere in the world". Then he linked business 'innovation' to Bush's Social Security plans. He then gave the private account spiel, but without any details (didn't mention if it was voluntary, that there were administration costs involved, that there was a limit on the amount to be 'invested' each year, etc.) Claimed that private accounts would be the ultimate lock box, in that no one but you could touch the money. Said that in a few years SS would produce a "negative rate of return" while private accounts would result in a "large nest egg" across 35 or 40 years with compound interest. Snow said that private accounts wouldn't "weaken Social Security system since as you withdraw money to go to private accounts, your SS dollars are reduced". Stated they would not raise taxes because "raisin rates makes labor more expensive". When Bush cut tax rates the "economy turned around and we got a lot more jobs." Finished with quoting that Bill Clinton recognized the problem in 1997 and talked about 'the looming crisis'.

Mr. Snow was speaking to a student majority audience at the Sam Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas.

2. Oh great, Wal-Mart economics
Did Snow also mention that he never paid into Social Security? He was a Railroad executive, and paid into Railroad Retirement, just as I did.

4. Forgot to mention that the administration believes that after this
60-day tour is over, the American people will shift their support to Bush's plan. Also, he claims that we have the "fastest growing economy in the world" - today!!
