If you became President for a day, what would you do?

Let's say tomorrow, I became President for one day. And not only that, I became Super-President with extra privileges. If that happened for only one day, here is what I would do:

Make sure the Plame incident is investigated

Start a special investigation for the Anthrax Letter attacks

Start an investigation into Gannon-gate

Start investigations into voting machine companies such as Diebold and ES&S

Start a new 9/11 commission

What would you do?

19. Seriously--Kyoto and World Court

and getting to the bottom of the Bush/Cheney crimes topped my list, too. The first two, because we should be world citizens, with all it implies.

As to the third, I'd want to make public as much of our stupidity as I could, to a) start making amends and b) help make sure we don't go wrong again. If I couldn't make gov't transparent, at least I'd want to wipe a corner of the window.

And I like the idea of showing a White House for all Americans, regardless of faith.

Then I would arrange for tax breaks for the building of solar panels and give homeowners in areas where they would be most beneficial (Southwest, West, Florida, etc), subsidies to install them.

I would increase the license fees for every vehicle larger than the average four-door sedan and reduce the license fees for every small, economical or hybrid vehicle.

I would change the voting laws so they would be the same all over the entire country for National Elections and I would outlaw electronic voting and return to paper ballots that could be hand-counted, if necessary.

Legalize pot... then release all those behind bars for offenses dealing with it...and give free heroin for addicts that agree to be under a doctors care, ending the profits for pushers of this terribly addictive drug. Invite the familes of all those killed in Iraq to DC, all expenses paid, for a series of events honoring their loss.

Order an immediate disclosure of the names of all persons held in the US or elsewhere as part of the post 9/11 'terror' incarceration and order an attorney to be made available to each prisoner immediately. And, any person who had been held without charges for more than 3 months would be released, automatically.

Order the immediate declassification and release of every document relating to 9/11 for public scrutiny.

Executive order to roll back all tax breaks as a national security matter (our impending fiscal collapse is a major threat to the security of the nation).

Proclamation requesting that every American citizen spend 2 full weekend days per month either attending anti-hate learning sessions, tending to the homeless, or working on cleaning some environmentally threatened area.

Executive order requiring that condoms be freely available to any person, irrespective of age, as a public health preventive action to HIV and other forms of VD.

Issue a proclamation that religion is an individual's choice, to be honored and protected, but that any effort to fuse religion and "God" with a democratic government is not permissable.

Issue a proclamation that a woman has absolute control over what she decides to do with a pregnancy. As part of that proclimation, make it clear that men have NO grounds for comment on abortion until a system of measures protecting women from impregnation by rape are insituted.

This would all happen in the first 5 minutes. Much more would follow int the remaining 23 hours and 55 minutes.

I mean, in the first two hours we'll roll back the tax cuts Bush imposed, reinstate the Fairness Doctrine, reinstate the media ownership guidelines, summarily execute the entire Bush administration, form a kangaroo court and throw Rush Limbaugh in jail for life (well, he SAID they need to throw drug abusers in jail!), send Robert Novak up the river, find about eight tops for Jimmy Guckert...

I figure it will take about a week to shut down the Iraq war, disband the Republican Party (as it is currently constituted, the GOP is a racketeering-influenced corrupt organization), send Tom DeLay to jail for life, figure out how long the Christian Coalition, the American Family Association and all the other fundie "action" groups have been playing in the political spectrum so we know how big their retroactive tax bills will be, legalize pot...and in that time I can write an executive order suspending the Constitution, declaring the executive branch immune to the powers of the judicial branch, and making me president for life.
