Does this ever happen to anyone else?
You post something "hot" (not necessarily LBN) in the GENERAL or POLITICS forums and they SINK. You know they are important, but down they go.

Later that day or in 24-48 hours you see another post with identical information that has 15 "greatest" nominations and 50+ replies.

I'll give a couple examples of this happening to me.

1. Marty Meehan in my Rep. Last Monday I got a tip about his new bill to ban "don't ask don't tell". The post sank. A couple days later another post based on a press release took off.

2. Two weeks ago, the NYT and MSM announced that the Borough of Queens had blocked a Wal-Mart. My post got a few (15+/-) replies. Today a new post, based on a union article, has close to 200 replies. Two week old news gets more attention than current, I guess.

3. On 2/6, I attended a Kerry event in person. I reported that Senator Kennedy said "The Kerry 2008 campaign starts here tonight". The post got 9 replies. Today a new post quotes Kennedy as saying he is supporting Kerry for 2008 and there are close to 100 replies.

4. On 2/12 I attended a Kennedy Foundation ceremony, where it gave its "Distinguished American" award to to Senator Kerry. Wrote a first hand account, which did OK, but someone a couple days later stated one based on a news account (I asked mods to combine but....). I had new info to add to my post, but found it locked; the younger one is still alive.

No, I am not looking for :nopity:, just curious why this happens.

Go figure.

1. time of day
If you post it late at night, like around this hour, it inevitably goes down.

I've also noticed that no one pays any attention to news about Latin America, except if Chavez or Castro are mentioned. Those are the ones I post that always get ignored. I guess they are far less important or interesting than than the sex life of various public figures.

2. Possibly
You know where I find the best material in GENERAL? I skip the first 1-2 pages and "bottom feed" on stuff that has sunk to page 3 or beyond. It's like finding treasures at a yard sale.

People are so involved in the "hottest" feeding frenzy, they (collectively) let good stuff go by.

4. I am only trying to be helpful here....
Do you put much thought into your subject line.
There is so much to read here, an effective headline
will probably create more traffic.
Only a suggestion....
On a lighter note maybe having a hearse in your
identity scares the horses.
It seems to me most DUers don't recognize arse.
Check out my name. tee hee

7. I think the other replies are right, timing is one crucial factor
Another possible reason is you aren't making the headline "grabbing" enough, if you make the headline something flashy then you can get a lot of attention.
