Idea for a powerful anti-bankruptcy-bill campaign
A little late, I admit, but I was thinking about all the times you see the word "easy" in credit card and loan ads--"easy payments," "easy terms"--and was imagining a national ad that would show how credit card companies and banks (which are, of course, behind this legislation) behave like the Hindu goddess of death Kali, who is symbolized with one hand beckoning and the other warning to stand back. (I'm not suggesting Kali be a part of the ad, of course.) The point is, banks are asking Congress (which is only too happy to oblige) to dig them out of a mess they themselves created by offering "easy credit" on "easy terms" to every one with a wallet to put a card into. That is really what is going on here. The buck is being passed yet again to people who cannot afford it.

1. In a couple of years, the blowback is going to be so bad
that congress will be forced to change it. Book it. It's going to happen.

Could be a real plus in the 2006 elections, as painful as the effects are going to be

2. I am not going to bet against the power of the powers that be to get
away with this murder. They seem to have a knack for getting away with it.

3. There is no mess
The CC companies are making profits hand over fist. They just want to squeeze out that last few percent, and damn the proles.

4. They want the social contract rewritten so the burden is on the
consumer. They want it all.

But my point is, if credit card companies really want people to be responsible credit consumers, they should not be spending so much of their profits on getting people to use their credit cards. They don't want responsible credit card users, really, because that is against their interest. And they don't want to have to answer for their own satanic responsibility in the creation of the American debt society.
