Help! Received email saying that my acct is being used to send junk mail

It says the following:

"Your e-mail account was used to send a large amount of junk email messages during this week. Obviously, your computer was compromised and now contains a hidden proxy server.

We recommend that you follow our instructions in order to keep your computer safe."

They attached a zip file which I did not open.


Any suggestions?

1. It's a trojan horse with a virus in the attachment.

Ignore, trash, run your anti-virus disc utility.

Never open unsolicited attachments.

Check the headers. Most likely the attached zip file is a virus or trojan.

5. If u have to stay in WINTEL world.....

i say update your virus program scan your hard drive, use something other than outlook or outlook express.

if you have cable modem use firewall, router etc.

under any circumstances. Delete the whole thing immediately. It's a ruse.

8. I usually place my own Email address in my address book...that way if

there is activity I would know about it, because I would get the spam mail too...Just a tip ;)

9. DELETE the file, and run your anti-virus software...

Google part(s) of the phrase you posted -- it's common, and it's probably unsafe to open.

AVG anti-virus....

I run that and Norton, and AVG has caught stuff that Norton didn't
