CBS rolled over on Social Serurity |
|
I predicted that it would take a week after the "60 Lies in 60 days Roadshow" started, but it only took 4 days.
They had a softball segment on the Chilean retirement program, talking to people who said how wonderful it is and how it jump-started the markets there.
Gag me with a spoon. There have been a number of studies showing the opposite that they didn't mention, although they did point out that low income workers can look forward to $150 a month if their investments don't pan out.
Scheifer is off to a great start. CBS won that award. How long before NBC and ABC start promoting privatization, or have they already?

2. USA Today today was a veritable sales brochure for Bush |
|
"Six People More Important Than You" or whatever they called it, told us why this is the best thing that ever happened to the world. You wanna know where all the missing war money is? Bush used a truckload of it to pay of everybody and anybody.
Of course, that's a bit tin-foil-hatty. In fact, McPaper is just another very large corporation that will reap a huge cash windfall if it no longer has to pay that matching 6%. So is every news org reporting on this. This deform is GREAT for them, so they aren't about to tell American anything bad about it.

the Republicans have lost on social security need to think again.
There is NO effective opposition party in America- and there are NO CHECKS AND BALANCES left. Period.
Every single corporate media outlet will be playing stories like this and lying for 6-or 7 months before the vote comes
And my prediction is the Dems will sell out again.
I mean, why shouldn't they? There aren't any consequences to betraying their party or their constituents.

Now that they got rid of that terrible "liberal" Dan Rather, they can go all out to kiss up to the corrupt Bush regime. It is disgusting! :grr:

11. What to take away from that segment |
|
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 11:42 AM by wryter2000
I'm waiting for some wingnut to bring up Chile. Here's the bottom line...
Not only are large numbers of people excluded from the system, but people who are are paying 10% into the account + an additional 2.3% for administrative costs. That's over twice as much as our FICA.
So, when some asshole wingnut says, "look at Chile!" ask him if he wants to put twice as much of "my money" into a goverment program. See how fast he backs away from it.
Edit: not to excuse the pandering (although CBS did do a segment on what a disaster Thatcher's privatization has been in the UK), but if used properly, this can be a helpful tool. They'll think they've won a point, only to have it turned against them. I can't wait to use it.

I got kind of carried away with this one, obviously.
And, it didn't sound like there was any cap on the amount they paid. At least, they didn't mention a cap.
So, tell the wingnuts, "would you like to pay over twice as much on all your pay, not just the first 90K, for a system that isn't guaranteed?"
