Bush-supporting Government in Norway on the way out!!!
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 02:39 PM by palme
Hello everyone,

I just want to tell you that all the polls in Norway at the moment says that our Bush supporting government will be thrown out this fall, replaced by the welfare state champions, the social democrats, and the socialist left party (my party), as well as the anti war agrarian party.

It is a coalition for the people and for the environment and against Bush.

Just thought I'dd tell you.

Hei,

Palme.

14. Aftenposten: Socialist Parties Win More Voter Support.
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 02:32 PM by NYC
http://www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article992192.ece

Norway's Labour Party remains the most popular among voters at present, while the Socialist Left is gaining favour. Together, a so-called "Red-Green" coalition now holds more than 50 percent of the vote.

That compares to just 27 percent for the three parties now making up Norway's non-socialist coalition government...

32. Well, they have been in power a while, and we tend to get tired of
our leaders when they stayed to long. That said, I was very unhappy with your candidate for President last year.....

Kuchinich, Edwards, Dean, even Lieberman.... They seemed geniune. Kerry did not. I have always said that I have never seen two politicians that reminds me so much of each other as Kerry and our PM Bondevik...

I dont know if you like my advice or not.....But get a genuine person that people can belive in as your leader... You dares to stand up for what she believes in.

I was so impressed my the social democrat leader Stoltenberg last year, when he said...: The world is not going to end if we loose the election to the conservatives... In truth, there probably will not be all that much of a difference. That is, in the short term....But, all these small, decisions we make are crucial for which tracetory we put our country on for the long haul.... That's why you need to vote for the social democrats...Not to get more money into your pocket next month, but to ensure that you, and your children will always have a livable country to live in.,.

Heck...Before I heard that speech, I was just about to give up on the social democrats...But that honesty, really appealed to me...

Get a real stand up HONEST belieable guy or gal for your next candidate and you will not fail....

Palme.

44. I think Kucinich fit your description.
...Get a real stand up HONEST believable guy or gal for your next candidate...

But Kucinich got so little press coverage that some people never heard of him.

I disagree with Stoltenberg: The world is not going to end if we lose the election to the conservatives... In truth, there probably will not be all that much of a difference...

I think that in our case there is a major difference. I think Bush is extremely harmful, to the U.S. and the rest of the world. There is not a major difference between our two parties, but Bush & Co. are drastic. They will leave behind a swath of destruction. I call it a "slash and burn" policy.

52. I agree that Bush has broken out of the mold...
At least in International politics. He has created an immense hatred around the world, that might come home to roost one day.

On the other hand, he has shaken up the status quo of the middle east. Only time will tell what will happen.

One thing though for certain is that Bush has really helped radicalise the muslim population in Europe, which explains why many here are upset at his policies...

When it comes to International Politics I have been called a Cristopher Hitchens progressive just to warn you :-) That said, we have to do this together through the UN..

Terje Rød Larsen is an old timer from the social democrats and is now Kofi Annans representative in the middle east. He just went to Assad and told him "get out of Lebanon, get out your intelligence apparatus"...

Personally, I love this...To see countries like France, Germany, Norway, Sweden and the United States all united....

We need more of that please..

That is why I was upset that Bush decided to give the finger to the UN by appointing Bolton to the UN.

12. We have a parlimentary system....
Paper trail? I am not sure..

Exit polling seems to be very accurate.

We have a few parties in Norway.

We have the social democrats like in all Scandinavian countries. They have done a world of good, and pretty much built out welfare states. But, today, I think they are too much centrist. I might offend some people here, but I will call them John Kerry socialists.

Then you have the socialist left. Since this is my party, They are obviously the best in the world :-) Seriously, I feel they are the progressive party for the future in Norway. I will call them Kuchinich socialists.

Then you have the conservatives.....I dont know what to call them... Spineless Bush Appeasers perhaps? They have no new ideas...

Then you have the Progress party...... It is the party for the carzy racists nuke mecca give us free booze right wingers....

And out current Prime minister comes from the Christian party. Ok, I am christian but I dont like this party. All hypocracies. More interested in pleaseing Sharon and Bush and the Rich people than anything else.

Then the green party which probably will join the socialist in throwing out the conservatives.. Well, they are a bit too special interest and love the farmers, but they hate the Bush agenda, and they want to protect the environment..

It will be a good victory coalition.

Unless, the crazy conservatives steal and cheat the election :-(

22. Well., my party is called Socialistic Left party. :-)
You are right about our PM's party. How are things under them?

Well, they have had a minority government, so they have had to compromise to get their way.

Things are still good in Norway. But, I feel, they are starting us down a path that will eventually, little by little, lead to a very bad society.

They need to be stopped... Now...

Cheers.

26. I live a little bit south of Oslo.... I just read in the Heimskringla of
Snorre Sturlason about the history of this area. I learned that the local king that used to rule this area was King Gandalf. He ruled the Oslo, Eastfold area. He was eventually removed by the future King of Norway.. But, I still pledge alliegence to King Gandalf.. He must have been a progressive King :-)

BTW, In Norway, I am a republican, that is I am against the monarchy..... All progressives are.. The monarchy is to us a symbol of the old oppression of the poor people..

Kjell Magne must be the most unpopular PM in history.... I think his last approval rating was below 10 percent.... But, there you go. Our parlimenary system has its flaws. It has made it possible for Bondevik to cling on to power, all the while noone likes him.

He is a wishy-washy person who will do, say, support anything to remain in power.

Can you edit the subject to put a hyphen between "Bush" and "supporting"?

I misread the subject and thought it meant that Bush was no longer supporting the Norway government.

I dont want to sound anti-american, but there are many people there (I lived there for a couple of years) who drive their SUV's enjoy all sorts of amenitires, then they have a save the whale sticker on the back of their car and feel all good about themselves.

are way to the left of for instance Bill Clinton....Even they are strong supporters of the welfare state. It is actually ironic, that when it comes to gay rights, the conservatives are probably a head of ourselves.

So, I think Norway is doing alright anyways... But, it can always be better, I want to make Norway show the way in progressive politics so it can be a model for the world to be inspired.. m

45. I remember sitting watching the primary debates last year
and my father who has fought in the unions and in the social democratic party all his life, suddenly told me to be quiet. He said, "Who is this man? Kucinich? Now, he sounds like the great men of yesteryear...."

BTW: I might get banned now, but I will admit that I have been here before if you remember the story above.... I used to post as KurtNilsen, who joined in order to support John Edwards.

I have no idea why I was banned. I got no warning... So if it happens again, I want to wish you all the best, and remember to never give up fighting...

I personally, used to be an economist, but I got sick of the blatant immoral behaviour in the corporate world, so I am now taking an education to become a journalist. Someone has to stand up for the truth.

Seriously, who removed Kucinich? Was it the Republicans? No it was the democratic primary voters? I was so sad when you chose Kerry. Obviously Kerry, would be ten times better then Bush, but he just doesn't seem genuine....He reminds me of out PM,Bondevik. I am sure Bondevik would do anything if he thought he would become more popular..

I dunno. My father liked Kucinich...I liked him too. I think I kucinich Edwards ticket would be awsome... I don't trust Hillary..

I think that the democratic party much get back its confidence that its ideas are actually the best.. WHICH THEY ARE!!!

I read an essay a few years back by Hayek...who was Margareth Thatchers's guru..... It was called; "Why I am not a conservative".... He basically said, that conservatives have become reactionaries..... I am slightly worries that the democratic party is becoming reactionary.

Have faith in the progressive ideas.... They will win in the end. There is no use in waiting. Come on, and make the whole world cheer. And get rid of Bush, and present a totally new direction for America.

I actually get quite exite about the future..

Imagine what a progressive America and a progressive EU might achieve together....

Help Africa out of the shameful situaion it is currently in, help save the environment. Make peace with the middle east. Make workers everywhere rejoice....

Hei,

Perhaps, John Stewart could run for office in a few years :-)

Anyways, I wish you all the best.

We're having a tough go having to deal with the corporate media and corporatists financing the elections of people who are supposed to represent us. It's difficult to fight a two-front war, and we've been losing many battles over the last 30 years. As long as there are still a few folks who are willing to fight, not all is lost though.

As a fellow socialist, I hope your party and others boot out the pro-Bush government.

42. Well, here I will probably disagree with many of you.....
I applaud the danish in taking the steps they have when it comes to immigration and integration.. Mind, you, pretty much every European country will emulate Denmark eventually. I guarantee you.. and that is good news...

I mean I am so proud, of the fight the progressives have done in Europe to fight against the power and the bigotry of the Church....

Now, when a new bigotry is entering Europe, should it be left alone since it comes from the Mosque?

No, in my opinion. It is the duty of every progressive to fight against it with the same spiriry we fought against the church. Somehow, I hate hearing Bush speaking about Libery? What does he know about Libery? Libery been fought and won by progressives and workers all throughout the West.....

And believe you me....The people we want to be aligned with are joined in this fight...

Hei,

Palme.

48. I am going to tell you a secret....
I think progressive politics are doing much better than we think. Even in American.... Heck every American I meet is very progressive... Even the ones who say they vote Republican...It is just that somehow the Democrat party has lost credibility. With some hard work, that credibility can be won back.

It shouldn't be impossible, because I think most Americans are on our side.

56. It sure is conforting to know that we have the backing of all of you
fellow DUers throughout the world. I predict that when we get off our duffs and decide to do something about this criminal in the White House. The response from the world will be overwhelming and you know what happens when a snow ball starts rolling down hill. So I ask hang in there with us. We do have a breaking point.

55. But see you do..
Have you ever had an ale?

Ale...is øl which is old norse.... Back in the old days it was a religious duty to drink beer in order to worship Odin.,

Have you heard of New York? York is short for Yorvik, one of the first Viking settlements in England.

Then you have the weekdays.

Wednesday is off course Wodan's day, the anglo-saxon version of Odin.

Then you have Thursday, which is the day of Thor.

Friday, Wohooo, is the day of Freya.

So there you go, you know, more Norsk than you know :-P
