Maher did slam the bankruptcy bill |
|
Edited on Sat Mar-12-05 02:22 AM by Tactical Progressive
Called it "a bill without a constituency", and from there went to questioning Barney Frank why, as Dems seem to always be on the side of the people, they keep losing elections.
Barney said, 'if you do things "the old fashioned way" and count the votes, we actually won 2000'. Audience loved it. Frank also said twice that he thinks the people are seeing what's really going on and will be supporting Dems next time around. After 9/11 'They liked the music, but now they don't like the words.'
Maher's take on Social Security privatization is sadly superficial. I think if he really thought about it he'd come around.
His take on the great Bush vision of freedom on the march really pisses me off. No excuse for that one.

2. Maher likes to poke at conventional wisdom |
|
That explains his somewhat support for SS privatization, but again, it's superficial and I've got to believe he'd come around if he thought about it.
His need to tweak conventional wisdom doesn't fit his recent support of the Iraq invasion just because of the Iraqi elections. That is pathetic reasoning, plus I thought he'd be more cynical than that.

9. I get it. He is getting paid more and a deal was struck |
|
If he lightens up and goes more centered he makes more money and gets more shows. That's all he's doing, playing the money card. He'll try appeasing the right now...just wait and see.

11. I think it's okay if some of folks want to give |
|
George a little credit. It's bullshit, of course, and likely will not last, because if the White House's goal really was democracy in the Middle East, they would have started with Saudi Arabia. But it's always good to re-check our assumptions.
If it were true, we'd be heading out of Iraq right now, or at least have a plan to exit within a year.
It's no surprise that people get pissed when George of the bungle takes credit for any movement in the ME, it pisses off many of the citizens there, too.
So, let some be a little magnanimous, even as Iraq slips into deeper chaos, in great part because we keep our troops there as occupiers.
It's still about oil, control and power for Bush & Co.

3. I was bitterly disappointed this evening! |
|
One more show like tonight's and he'll lose me as a viewer, I'm afraid. It's almost as if he's been de-programmed or something. BTW- I'm a teacher. A high school teacher. He scored all kinds of points with me there.
Peace!

4. Better not tune in next week then. |
|
Next week is Republican week on Maher.
On the other hand, Bill might just have to play the aggressor against the Repubs since it's supposed to be a full-Repub panel. Hopefully the audience will be demonstrative either way. Polite, but vocal.

7. Conservatives have been emailing him saying that he packs his |
|
show with people who agree with him and if the audience was filled with conservatives, he would hears a few boos. They say he is scared to let conservative in.
I wonder if he will get hit hard on the show he has invited them to be on. Suppose the conservatives will send in the hard-liners?

13. Does he refuse tickets to Republicans? Bush has town hall |

meetings where he refuses 49% of the town.

15. Conservatives say he picks an audience who is liberal so they |
|
will laugh and cheer when he wants them to and when a conservative group wants to attend, they are told it is full for that night. So, he is having a night just for them
I have already heard conservative say that just proves he can put anyone he wants on his show....lol

14. I agree, tonight had some disappointing moments. |
|
It could be he was having an off night...
Personally, I thought his comment was sadlty on the mark but way off a numer of other marks that he ignored.
Yes, it appears that in an irony that in spite of the massive failure that Bush's Junta has had a miserable and terrific failure with their mideast policy, yet, even as muich as I am loath to admit it, it seems to have worked in some odd ways.
But to that I say this, even Hitler did 'some' good, he just did so much more bad that the good is easily ignored. (Technically he did some good for th epeople by giving them a direction and a focus-goal to apply to rebuilding their country. Like Bush, he didn't do it for the right reasons or in the reight way)

6. I think someone is putting subtle pressure on people on TV like they tried |
|
to do with Robin Williams at the Academy Awards. Robin Williams doesn't rely on TV for his income so he could come out and change his bit but say the same thing. Maher can't. He has been canceled once or twice already for p*ssing off the wrong person so, I think, he throws in a few "Atta-boy"s to Bush to keep his show. The pressure is on folks.....tow the line or get hung by it!
